The Director of Research Compliance and Ethics oversees and administers the Office of Research Compliance and Ethics within the Division of Research and Economic Development to ensure observance of regulatory requirements governing research compliance. The Director is responsible for the implementation, maintenance and assessment of research compliance and ethics activities, as well as management of related issues/concerns within the university that fall under the purview of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Economic Development. Areas of oversight and administrative support include research involving human subjects, animals, biosafety, radiation safety; export controls compliance; management of conflicts of interest for research. Additionally, the Director serves as the Research Integrity Officer by facilitating the investigation and resolution of allegations of research misconduct, and develops and implements education and training programs for the responsible conduct of research.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit:
The Division of Research and Economic Development (DORED) manages N.C. A&T's research enterprise. DORED provides services to faculty and student researchers, to current and potential research partners, funding agencies, and economic development agencies. It is headed by the Vice Chancellor for Research and Economic Development.

Minimum Qualifications - Master's degree in related field - 5 years of experience in research compliance or related professional experience - Demonstrated experience with research integrity and compliance programs, including in-depth understanding of applicable federal, state and local legislation - Demonstrated experience working independently and as a member of a team - Excellent interpersonal skills, with demonstrated experience working effectively with personnel, government and members of the research community - Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to respond effectively to confidential inquiries or complaints - Demonstrated ability working with a diverse population within a compliance setting - Experience in developing and conducting education and training programs in compliance and integrity - Demonstrated leadership conceptualizing, initiating, and implementing compliance programs that support research while ensuring accountability - Demonstrated management and supervisory skills, including an ability to teach and mentor professional staff and to achieve both timely completion of goals and client satisfaction
Preferred Qualifications - Research administrative experience in higher education, industrial research organization and/or federal regulatory agency - Membership in related professional organizations such as PRIM&R - A broad understanding of higher-education issues, resource management, and development of and support for a research enterprise - Experience drafting, presenting and implementing internal policies and facilitating the implementation of external regulations
