The Project Management and Development Branch (PMDB) within the Real Estate Services Division, Department of General Services (DGS) is seeking to recruit 5 of the best project managers to work on some of California’s most exciting and challenging state building projects. PMDB provides project management, architectural and engineering design, space planning and interior design, and construction management services. Projects range from small remodels to large new buildings often involving complex phasing and CEQA requirements for a wide variety of State agencies. DGS is experiencing growth and has multiple opportunities for project managers to represent the State of California on design and construction projects.
Project Directors provide oversight and management of major capital outlay and special repair projects from the planning phase through design and construction. The Project Director I ($91,584/yr.-$114,564/yr.) manages less complex projects while the Project Director II ($107,736/yr.-$134,820/yr.) manages more complex and sensitive projects. All Project Directors are in Bargaining Unit 9 which is represented by the Professional Engineers in California Government (PECG) Union. State client agencies include DGS, Department of Motor Vehicles, California Highway Patrol, Forestry and Fire Protection, State Hospitals, California Conservation Corps, Education, Public Health, Fish and Wildlife, Food and Agriculture, Caltrans and many more.

PMDB manages the design and construction process on behalf of state agencies and departments. PMDB assists state agencies and departments in developing conceptual documents for cost and budget control, programming, site planning and master planning, and other documents for co...nceptualizing capital outlay projects that are necessary to obtain legislative authorization and funding projects.
PMDB additionally provides architectural and engineering services, environmental services, and performs structural retrofits, asbestos and other hazardous material abatement, and underground tank removal.
