The Assistant Vice Provost (AVP) for Distance Education and Extended Learning leads NCA&T's online learning, continuing education and summer school programming. The AVP provides visioning in support of the University's strategic plan as it relates to online programs, and manages and allocates resources to support the development of online programs in support of the university's strategic plan. The AVP will work with colleagues and stakeholders to develop and align the mission and vision of the Office of Distance Education and Extended Learning with the mission and vision of the University and the UNC system.
The Assistant Vice Provost will provide leadership of the three primary units that comprise the Office of Distance Education and Extended Learning. In particular, online learning is a strategic priority for the university, and the Assistant Vice Provost must provide critical leadership to the program. The Assistant Vice Provost is responsible for successful implementation of all the functions of the unit including compliance with the policies and procedures of North Carolina A&T State University and the UNC General Administration, standards of accreditation as published by SACS-COC, and state and federal regulations governing the offering of online courses. The AVP reports to the Vice Provost for Graduate Programs, Research and Extended Learning and is a member of the Provost's Administrative Council.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit:
The Office of Distance Education and Extended Learning within the Division of Academic Affairs at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University (NCA&T) coordinates the university's distance education programs, summer sessions, and non-credit courses and workshops. The office provides strategic leadership and effective management to ensure that the university's goals are achieved. The office assists department chairs and deans in planning new distance education programs; plans appropriate summer programs; and provides consultative service to develop and conferences, workshops and short courses to meet the needs of the corporate and wider community. The office is also responsible for compliance with the policies and procedures of North Carolina A&T State University and the UNC General Administration, standards of accreditation as published by SACS-COC, and state and federal regulations governing the offering of online courses.

Doctoral degree; at least 7 years of teaching experience in an online environment in higher education; and at least 5 years of experience in managing educational programs.
Excellent organizational skills, including a strong orientation to detail and deadlines; the ability to maintain accurate and detailed records and documentation; excellent interpersonal and communication skills; and the understanding of major academic, pedagogical, and technological concepts that impact distance, distributed, and online learning; experience with accreditation and compliance in higher education; experience with programs leading to a professional licensure, such as nursing, education, psychology, etc; knowledge of marketing, business practices, and customer relations; experience with distance learning development tools and demonstrated ability to develop effective models for online programs and services; ability to facilitate the work of consultants, designers, developers, and academic program coordinators.
