The Associate Research Scientist is expected to lead and carry out high quality, scholarly research and collaborate with basic science and clinical faculty at NYU Langone Health and NYU Langone Orthopedic Hospital. The ideal candidate will have experience in: Orthopedic Biomechanics; Biomechanics of Soft Tissue; In Vivo Biomechanical Testing; Clinical Biomechanics; Image-Based Biomechanical Modeling and Applications; and Biomechanics in Disease.
Develop experimental mechanical testing protocols to answer clinical and basic research questions in musculoskeletal research in cooperation with surgeons, basic and clinical researchers, engineers and students.
Conduct biomechanical experiments using in vivo models of musculoskeletal conditions and disease.
Conduct biomechanical testing of hard and soft skeletal tissues, orthopaedic implants and clinical fixation procedures using servo-hydraulic and electromechanical test systems.
Design and fabricate test fixtures for the required test protocols in cooperation with the machine shop at the NYU Tandon School of Engineering.
Collection, post-processing and statistical analysis of testing data.
Preparation of abstracts and manuscripts in cooperation with basic and clinical faculty.
Participate actively in guiding, educating and teaching clinical fellows, medical students, and graduate/undergraduate students in the area of biomechanical testing.
Must have earned a Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Bioengineering, or a related discipline. Preference will be given to those with a record of pertinent high-quality research and experience working with clinical and basic research faculty. Candidate must demonstrate Initiative, Innovative Thinking, Results Orientation/Project Management, Teamwork and Collaboration, Analytical Thinking/Problem Solving, Learning and Development, Professionalism, Relationship Building, Organization.
Individuals with experience operating and maintaining an Instron Mechanical Testing System (MTS) or a similar system are preferred.
Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
