The Program Manager, Diversity & Inclusion, works within the Sackler Institute at the NYU School of Medicine, a division of the Graduate School of Arts and Science of New York University, to help recruit, develop, and retain a diverse community for the Sackler Institute. S/he will also collaborate with the Office of Diversity Affairs of the NYU School of Medicine. S/he may also work within the external community to promote STEM interest in students of diverse backgrounds. S/he will assess programmatic needs that support diversity, assess current programs and populations regarding diversity issues and use those assessments to promote and develop new initiatives. S/he will also research best practices in diversity initiatives and use those findings to inform decisions and assess the outcomes of initiatives with a particular focus on their impact on recruitment and retention. S/he will work with the Assistant Director, Student Mentoring and Career Development to plan and manage budgets related to new and existing diversity initiatives (Sackler Diversity Initiative and LGBTA) within the Sackler Institute.
S/he will also work closely with the student body to not only assist diverse students with their transition to graduate school but also help enrich their cultural development and resolve conflicts.
Possess a strong commitment to enhancing multicultural understanding at Sackler
Provide advice, guidance and support on equality and diversity issues
Assess community needs and promote cohesion
Promote change within the organization and wider community
Help recruit diverse students to the PhD and MD/PhD programs to increase diversity overall
Develop initiatives based on assessment of existing internal and external programs in collaboration with the Office of Diversity Affairs, as needed
Track academic progress of diverse students throughout the program (grades, qualifying exams, committee meetings, thesis defense) and mentor as needed
Maintain contact with alumni and use them as resources for career development of current diverse students
Demonstrate knowledge of the organization’s Core Values and incorporate them into the performance of duties
Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree and/or three or more years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Possess a demonstrated history of success working both independently and as part of a team
Demonstrate the ability to pay close attention to detail
Outstanding written, oral, and interpersonal skills
Must possess strong skills in diplomacy
Strong ability to think critically
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe products
Have a broad experience in the development of educational, cultural, and social programs designed to improve the quality of the educational and social experiences of graduate students in general and women and underrepresented minority students in particular
Experience in graduate school education
