The University of Houston-Downtown (UHD) seeks an experienced and innovative leader to serve as dean of the Marilyn Davies College of Business.
The dean is the chief academic and administrative officer for the Marilyn Davies College of Business, reporting directly to the senior vice president and provost for academic and student affairs. The dean will develop extensive working relationships with the university’s executive leaders, as well as academic, student and community leaders.
The dean of the Marilyn Davies College of Business is responsible for providing leadership that supports the mission, vision and strategic goals of the college and university. The dean works closely with a management team comprised of associate deans, assistant deans, and department chairs. In addition, the dean works and consults with the faculty of the college and fully engages in shared governance. Primary responsibilities for the dean include building and maintaining the quality of business programs; building and supporting faculty teaching and scholarship; meeting enrollment targets; maintaining accreditation; strengthening relationships with the business community; and fundraising. The dean oversees an annual operating budget of $14 million.
The Marilyn Davies College of Business at the University of Houston-Downtown (UHD) has charted a bold new course in MBA education, integrating real world expectations and experience of corporate leaders into the development and execution of the MBA curriculum. A defining feature of the program is the joint teaching of corporate fellows and accomplished faculty in courses, which uniquely prepare students for careers in a highly-competitive, global environment of which Houston businesses are major players. This transformation in professional education has catapulted the Marilyn Davies College of Business into the largest MBA program in the Greater Houston area in just three years, as recognized by the Houston Business Journal. The college partners with business and industry in all of its programs. The college offers nine undergraduate programs with twenty-one minors, two master’s programs with ten concentrations, and nine graduate certificate programs. All degrees awarded in the college are accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business Accreditation (AACSB).
The college consists of four academic departments: Accounting and International Business; Economics, Finance and Management Information Systems; Management and Insurance and Risk Management; and General Business, Marketing and Supply Chain Management. The college also provide student support services through its offices of Advising and Student Services, Career Development Center, and Continuing and Professional Education. The college faculty and staff is comprised of 60 tenured and tenured track faculty, 36 non-tenure track faculty and 42 staff. The college supports 2,653 undergraduate and 910 graduate students. The successful candidate for the position of dean of the Marilyn Davies College of Business will be a strong innovative leader capable of inspiring and flourishing the faculty, staff and students of University of Houston-Downtown. The optimal candidate will have earned doctoral degree, minimum of five (5) years of administrative experience at the chair level or above with responsibility for academic programs, budgets, personnel decisions, performance reviews and decisions regarding promotion and tenure, established record of teaching, scholarship, and service, with a minimum rank of associate professor that qualifies the candidate for a senior faculty appointment in one of the college's disciplines and demonstrated administrative engagement with AACSB standards and successful accreditation.
