The Director of Nursing (DON) provides clinical leadership to the 45-bed post-acute center and 70-bed Assisted Living & Memory Care center. The ideal candidate will be passionate about providing innovative, cost-effective and compassionate care to all residents in our community. This position requires extensive experience in the long term care industry and an individual who can confidently empower employees while holding them accountable to providing the highest level of care and support. This position is perfect for a nurse with strong clinical knowledge combined with demonstrated leadership skills.
The DON will provide complete oversight and management of the Skilled Nursing Facility and clinical support for the Assisted Living / Memory Care facility in collaboration with the Nursing NHA and ALF Director. The DON will collaborate with executive leaders to develop strategic goals and implement a plan to achieve performance improvement, census growth, education development and an increase in resident satisfaction. The DON will work with the medical director and contracted physicians to achieve the goals and objectives of the campus.
Primary duties include, but are not limited to:
Responsible for the overall direction, coordination and evaluation of the nursing department.
Responsible to interview, hire, orient, train, develop, schedule, monitor, evaluate, counsel and discharge SNF staff in consultation with the Nursing Home Administrator and Director of Human Resources.
Assures that adequate strategies are in place to verify the current licensure and credentials of nursing employees.
Maintains working knowledge of Medicare/Medicaid guidelines, ensures compliance with federal/state regulations governing all applied licenses and serves as primary liaison with the annual surveyors.
Maintains administrative authority, responsibility and accountability for the proper charting and documentation of care and medications and treatments.
Schedules and performs Resident rounds to monitor and evaluate the quality and appropriateness of nursing care.
Develops and implements the written staffing plan and nursing schedule that reflects the needs of the resident population.
Participates in the budget process of the facility and maintains the nursing supply, equipment and nurse staff budgets.
Makes nursing diagnoses which serves as the basis for the strategy of care.
Listens to resident and family concerns and facilitates solutions in consultation with the Nursing Home Administrator.
Communicates with physician, family and health care providers regarding the changing condition of any resident.
Develops a plan of care based on assessment, implementing nurse care and evaluates the residents' responses to nursing interventions.
Assures the safety and security of residents through proper use of equipment, safety devices, and by knowing and following fire, safety and disaster procedures
This position is generally performed Monday through Friday during normal business hours; flexibility to meet fluid business needs is required. This position requires an AS in Nursing with current and discipline free Florida RN license, strong clinical skills and 3-5 years’ experience in an administrative role in a skilled nursing facility with a solid track record of leadership. BSN strongly preferred. Requires the ability to effectively and professionally present information and respond to questions from department heads, customers (Residents, family members, physicians, etc.) and the general public. It is important that the DON acts as a role model and promotes the mission, values and culture of organization.
