Under the direction of the department manager and undergraduate program Coordinator of Sociology, the incumbent provides academic and administrative support to the department in these primary functional areas: curriculum and instructional support, undergraduate program support, undergraduate operational support, development, and web support.
The Sociology Department at UCSC is a medium-sized department with approximately 16 faculty, 40 graduate students, 700 undergraduate students, and 6 staff members (including the department programs coordinator). In Sociology at UCSC, we take scholarly leaps into the dynamics of social action: agency and governance, politics and mediation, identity and difference, social justice and ethics, democracy and sustainability, and technologies and environment.
Selected candidate will be required to pass a criminal history background check.
Per the Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA), this position has been identified as a Mandated Reporter. The selected candidate will be required to report known or suspected child abuse or neglect as defined by CANRA and will be required to sign a Statement Acknowledging Requirement to Report Child Abuse prior to commencing employment.
Demonstrated related administrative experience.
Solid technical skills in word processing (Microsoft Word), spreadsheet (Excel), database applications (FileMaker Pro and/or other databases), web applications, PDF files (Adobe Acrobat Professional), Internet navigation, social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) and email; experience in web editing and design; experience creating online surveys; experience using Macs; experience working with a server, specifically uploading documents and coordinating permissions; experience with desktop publishing and/or design.
Ability to exercise discretion and good judgment with confidential matters.
Demonstrated ability to write concise, logical, and grammatically correct business correspondence.
Demonstrated work experience requiring excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
