EDUCAUSE (http://www.educause.edu), a national nonprofit association whose mission is to advance higher education through the use of information technology, invites applications for the position of Database Administrator.
The Database Administrator is the lead IT data steward responsible for coordinating changes to the data lake including infrastructure, architecture, and systems to meet the association’s business objectives. The DBA works closely with the Data Services Manager to review, optimize, and deploy database changes to production environments. The DBA manages data quality monitoring processes, reviews and communicates anomalies, and monitors data governance compliance. They are responsible for back end availability, integrity, retention, and architecture/interfacing. The DBA also supports the organization’s business intelligence initiatives by facilitating the development of key performance indicators to track and measure service delivery, capacity management and usability.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Data Development and User Support
Review, design and develop data models in conjunction with the development teams
Provide various database technical reports as requested by senior management
Work closely with Data Services Manager and Data Governance team to prioritize data requirements
Develop and implement data collection systems and other strategies that optimize query efficiency and data quality
Participates in the management of the data dictionary for the enterprise.
Supports the Data Services Manager in partnering with business units to develop key metrics and leading indicators that allow leadership to assess performance
Create innovative data tools such as executive dashboards, scorecards, and weekly/monthly reports to allow tracking of key business measurements
Develop and publish operational metrics and reporting associated with EDUCAUSE business
Database Maintenance and Security
Maintain, secure, update, and troubleshoot the existing MSSQL environments, and all hosted databases
Backup and restore data to prevent data loss
Ensure that organizational data is secure
Ensure that the database operates efficiently and without error
Maintain all database documentation related to configuration, processes, service records, asset inventories, topologies, administration manuals, job instructions, support contacts and vendor information
Maintain the databases and update permissions
Coordinate database maintenance with other information technology and end-user units of the association
Working as a member of a team or individually, maintains all vendor and custom patches, fixes and tuning as required
Perform new SQL server installations, upgrades, and databases migrations
Database performance, analysis, and enhancement
Oversee and coordinate data migration
Monitor various performance aspects of Database services, and take the necessary actions when needed.
Resolve and respond to database incidents and change requests assigned.
Maintain efficient deployment processes and techniques for installations of standardized SQL components and application(s) configuration.
Acquire data from primary or secondary sources and maintain databases. Filter and “clean” data as required.
Establish and track project schedule and identify resource requirements for each phase of a project from conception to maintenance
Participate in evaluation of applications and their relationship to the association’s database platforms

Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in computer science and a minimum of four years’ experience with relational database technologies; or an associate’s degree and six years’ experience with relational database technologies
5+ Years’ experience designing/developing, building and maintaining an MS SQL Database (2005/2008/2012)
Experience viewing and deploying Stored Procedures
Knowledge (or experience) of developing web applications and writing and consuming API's using Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP)
Experience with relational databases including table design, query development, macro development, and reporting
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Must be able to write complex SQL queries for data extraction, reporting, cleaning, and manipulation
Must be highly skilled in the technologies that support enterprise data management and data analytics such as MySQL, SQL Server, T-SQL, PostgreSQL, Scripting Languages (Shell, Perl, Python), *Nix knowledge, Active Directory, Identity Management, Development Background (C#, ASP.NET, MVC), SSRS, SSIS, Qlik Server experience, Data Mapping/ETL
Familiarity with netFORUM is a plus
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively (verbally and in writing); easily communicating complex ideas.
Proven ability to work with others and to function well in a team environment
Ability to use initiative to identify better ways to work, solve problems, and suggest improvements; ability to take code and data and turn it into logical patterns, so that it can be analyzed.
Strong attention to detail and to the overall quality of information
