The RN Educator is a registered professional nurse who demonstrates expertise in clinical nursing. Assumes accountability and responsibility for provision of professional development to positively influence the quality and cost effectiveness of patient care. Responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating a program of education. Programming includes initial and ongoing staff competency (including a standardized nursing orientation), as well as continued education as identified by needs assessments and regulatory requirement initiatives. Applies policies, procedures, standards, and regulations as appropriate to their populations. The scope of the education will be determined through collaborative practice with leadership, educators, and advanced practice nurses to enhance the quality and cost effectiveness of patient care; assumes the role of an educator, facilitator, consultant, researcher and change agent.
Minimum Education Requirements
Bachelor's in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited School of Nursing program
Master's Degree in Nursing (MSN), Education, or other related graduate field of study preferred
Minimum Experience Requirements
Five years of experience in nursing
Two years of staff development, academic teaching and /or project development coordination preferred
Requires advanced knowledge in nursing, evidence-based practice methods, and person-centered care concepts
Nursing skills and knowledge base specific to specialty unit
Knowledgeable in the use of Microsoft Office products and e-learning platform
Current Colorado RN license/ Current RN license from a participating state in National Licensure Compact
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from American Heart Association required
Additional certifications may be required (refer to facility addendum(s)
Professional certification preferred
Demonstrates progress in obtaining staff development certification within one year of meeting eligibility requirements

Incorporates evidence-based practice and adult learning theory in project and course content.

Plans and facilitates education initiatives/classes/events that benefit the staff in collaboration with department specific leadership, to include but not limited to the annual competency validation, staff orientation, residency training program, specialty practice training classes, preceptor class, and outside committee participation.
Evaluates the quality of programs and services offered, including class evaluations and incorporation of feedback into program improvement.
Responsible to track course statistics and maintain documentation of educational activities including, but not limited to, evaluation data, attendance numbers and types, completion or success scores, etc.
Identifies and evaluates appropriate products, programs, and services, based upon needs assessment for populations served; for planning of or improving of educational offerings. .
Collaborates with managers and key clinical stakeholders to identify educational needs of staff regarding nursing care and/or equipment as it relates to quality patient care.
Presents education programs/continuing education activities as needed.
Participates in organizational clinical competency committee meetings as appropriate.
Demonstrates clinical skills, judgment, and nursing process in the management of patient populations.
Provides feedback to RN department focused educators who participate in unit, hospital, system committee/task force to maintain and improve the delivery of patient care.
Develops, implements, and evaluates programs to address deficiencies identified in the documentation audits.
Participates at Centura system level education related committees as appropriate.
Plans, evaluates, and implements program changes to maximize organizational resources and demonstrate best return on investment for the organization.
Responsible to work collaboratively with management/leadership, educators, and advanced practice nurses to enhance the quality and cost effectiveness of patient care.
Utilizes principles of communication and change theory in providing health care consultation to other departments and staff; specifically in areas of training/education/program development and associate development.
Functions as a role model for excellence in care by assisting associates with decision making in clinical situations.
Assesses learning needs, designs, organizes, implements, and evaluates education programs (orientation, continuing education, and in-services) that facilitate professional growth, knowledge and skill development, competency, applicable standards and attainment of standards of care for direct care providers.
