The Division of Supply Logistics is responsible for securely managing and controlling the inventory assets of NYC Transit and provides timely issuance of materials to support the activities of all NYC Transit Departments. The division currently operates 62 storerooms located throughout the five boroughs of NY City. It is seeking an experienced professional to serve as a Computer Specialist (Software). This position reports to the Assistant Chief Officer, Operations Management. It isbased in Maspeth, Queens, NY.
The incumbent will develop and oversee the design of systems enhancements in connection with improved inventory management, accountability and warehouse management, and user tests all system modifications developed; prepare and distribute instructional guides on system enhancements, and coordinate revisions to the division's Policy/Instruction manual.
The Computer Specialist will oversee and coordinate hardware repair activities and problems, oversee the serviceability of division hardware, coordinate repairs and replacements; identify and trouble shoot system software problems to resolution; assist with the identification and coordination of all PC and mainframe systems support requirements; and recommend, research and develop specifications for new computer equipment procurements and installations. In addition, the Computer Specialist will serve as the Pick Coordinator for Supply Logistics' multiple mainframe employee job selection Picks; and coordinate with field management on all required security forms associated with personnel movement resulting from such Picks;
The successful candidate will serve as a Local Security Officer to ensure all new employees and system users are given proper security access in an expedient manner to avoid any adverse impact on operations; and coordinates with inter-division management on inventory unit of measure changes. The Computer Specialist will interact with MTA IT and serve as the operational interface to ensure proper representation of Supply Logistics’ daily IT needs, and with the Office of the Controller on inventory adjustments greater than $20,000.
Education and Experience
Computer Specialist (Software) I-II
A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university, including or supplemented by 24 semester credits in computer science or a related computer field and two (2) years of satisfactory, full-time computer software experience in computer systems development and analysis, applications programming, database administration, maintenance and support, systems programming, data communications, mainframe development, mobile development and/or web development and design, one (1) year of which must have been in a project leader capacity or as a major contributor on a complex project in one or more of the acceptable areas; or
A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and six (6) years of satisfactory, full-time computer software experience as described in "1" above, one (1) year of which must have been in a project leader capacity or as a major contributor on a complex project in one or more of the acceptable areas; or
Education and/or experience equivalent to "1" or "2" above. College education may be substituted for up to two years of the required experience in "2" above on the basis that 60 semester credits from an accredited college or university is equated to one year of experience. A master’s degree from an accredited college or university in computer science or a related computer field, or a certificate of at least 625 hours in computer programming from an accredited technical school (post high school), may be substituted for one (1) year of the required experience in "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least a four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and at least (1) one year of satisfactory full-time experience in a project leader capacity or as a major contributor on a complex project in one or more of the acceptable areas.
Working knowledge of and experience working with mainframe CICS applications and security protocols such as RACF.
Working knowledge of and experience working with inventory and warehouse management systems.
Working knowledge of and experience working with PC operations, hardware, and applications to include, WINDOWS 7 and 10, and Microsoft Office 2013 and 2016 (WORD, EXCEL, POWER POINT, ACCESS & PROJECT).
Working knowledge of and experience working with WIRELESS devices and their applications.
Strong oral and written communication skills to include experience in the development of system design specifications and operating policies and procedures.
Experience in a customer service environment, to include training, and system problem resolution.
