The WVU Extension Service 4-H Youth Development Unit is hiring several part-time Extension Camp Instructors for the 2018 camping season. The 4-H Extension Camp Instructor Program is designed to enhance the development of young leaders through proven experiential-based training. Through this process, Instructors will be expected to act as role models for young people, demonstrating four-fold development, as well as an ability to collaborate with various constituents and design and execute camps and educational programs.
In order to be successful in this position, the ideal candidate will:
Lead or assist with organized educational, recreational or creative arts activities, including camp counseling, personal development classes, emergency response, music, indoor and outdoor recreation, etc.
Teach and motivate youth while nurturing positive self-esteem, decision-making skills, responsibility and leadership.
Participate in physical activities with campers.
Be energetic, enthusiastic, quick-thinking, flexible, diplomatic and prompt.
Exercise mature, professional judgment in assuming responsibility for and working with youth.
Travel to multiple counties throughout the state as needed.
Work cooperatively and communicate effectively with 4-H volunteer leaders, teen leaders, campers, Extension employees and other Extension Camp Instructors.
Understand and further the educational purposes of the WVU Extension Service and 4-H Program.
Length of Assignment : 3-6 months (approximate dates will be May 16, 2018-August 15, 2018) with some positions asked to work prior to and beyond those dates
Positions Available: Multiple
High school diploma
At least one (1) year of college education, trade school or military service
At least six (6) months experience iworking with youth
At least six (6) months experience in a summer camp setting preferred
Knowledge of 4-H heritage, traditions and songs preferred
Valid driver's license
Children on Campus training (mandated after hire)
Title IX training (mandated after hire)
