Seeks, secures, and stewards funding from foundation and corporate donors by writing proposals and grants, managing proposal and reporting projects, and cultivating and stewarding existing and new relationships with foundation and corporate donors.
Essential Job Duties
Cultivate and steward existing relationships with donors by scheduling meetings and phone calls and establish new relationships by drafting meeting prep sheets and e-mails with prospective donors.
Write and submit grant proposals, reports, budgetary items and gift acknowledgement letters to donors.
Oversee the maintenance of calendars, timelines, grants information and electronic and hard copy files of correspondence; enter, update and maintain donor and prospective donor information in the Development database and other electronic records.
Utilize social media to engage with existing donors and increase the outreach of the organization.
Assist in implementing the institutional component of the Annual Fund campaign.
Create stewardship plans and manage the proposal/reporting cycle.
Schedule and participate in cross-divisional meetings to build a knowledge base for writing proposals, reports, meeting prep sheets, e-mails and concept papers for projects and funders.
Collaborate to develop budgets and budget narratives for grant proposals and reports.
Perform other job-related duties as requested.
Required Qualifications – Required qualifications to effectively perform the job. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered. (Additional requirements may be designated by position.)
Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts, Journalism, Social Science or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
Two or more years of experience in proposal writing, foundation and government relations, grant reporting and budget development or similar industries.
Two to five years of experience with non-profit fundraising is preferred.

The ideal candidate must be self-motivated, able to take initiative and be extremely detail-oriented with excellent project management skills to balance multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
Knowledge of utilizing social media platforms in a business arena, including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn and Pinterest with excellent writing and editing skills
Experience managing and organizing mail, phone, and personal gift solicitations.
Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
Ability to work independently and as a team member in a very fast-paced work environment.
Experience working across departments as well as with staff at a variety of levels to meet objectives and broader organizational needs.
Knowledge of Chicago philanthropic community.
Able to process, protect and exercise discretion in handling confidential information and materials.
Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office products and fundraising databases (Salesforce preferred); ability to learn and master other computer technology/software programs as needed. Basic understanding of HTML is preferred.
Work Environment – Environmental or atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.
