The Montana Board of Investments Division for the Department of Commerce is looking for an Investment Analyst with rich experience in investment types, their application, use, and their markets. This position requires unparalleled integrity, initiative, resourcefulness, consistency and diligence in providing support of specific program implementation, and research and technical assistance to the Board’s entire investment staff.
This position will be assigned to the Board’s Private Investments team. Responsibilities will include:
Maintain working knowledge of global private markets investments including private equity, real estate, natural resources and other strategies as well as the global mergers and acquisitions markets.
Create and maintain data analytics for portfolio reporting and monitoring.
Conduct market analysis and source new private investment opportunities.
Monitor and conduct due diligence on existing and new private investments and actively maintain existing general partner relationships.
Participate in selecting and recommending new private investments.
Participate in negotiations to finalize legal documents governing private investments.

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Computer Information Systems or Economics plus five (5) years of experience in the field of accounting, banking, insurance or other financial investments within a significant institutional setting such as large pension, insurance, and foundation or endowment entity. A minimum of two (2) years of which should indicate demonstrable expertise in private equity or other private investment types, their application, use, and their markets
Experience requirement may be waived for CFA, CAIA, other relevant certificates of achievement, additional relevant graduate degree course work or direct investment experience with a private equity or private equity real estate sponsor. CFA or CAIA certifications strongly preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Working knowledge of capital markets, economics, and investment processes such as performance measuring and efficient use of various vendor research applications in an institutional setting.
Ability to adhere to investment process and expected outcomes as implemented and measured by the Board of Investments.
Ability to synthesize data and information and formulate, articulate and execute decisions based on a sound investment thesis and a defendable rationale within policy and professional discipline.
Advanced working knowledge of spreadsheets and database development.
Ability to take initiative with respect to the needs of senior investment staff.
Communicate at a professional level including clear writing with the ability to support and defend a position backed by evidence and data on time.
