A Yale University Security Officer is responsible for patrolling and providing security coverage for buildings, parking facilities and other designated areas. A successful candidate will have the ability to identify specific security risks and vulnerabilities and report same.

Required Skill/ability 1: Ability to provide excellent customer service, including conducting customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and providing exceptional customer service through the use of strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to write detailed daily activity and incident reports.
Required Skill/ability 2: Possesses strong active listening skills, including the ability to give full attention to what other people are saying, take time to understand the points being made, ask questions as appropriate, and not interrupt at inappropriate times.
Required Skill/ability 3: The ability to identify potential risks and determine the appropriate course of actions.
Required Skill/ability 4: Security Officers provide essential functions and are required to work in all situations, including but not limited to during emergencies, inclement weather and/or University closings. Mandatory order-in may occur.
Required Skill/ability 5: Demonstrated proficiency with computer technology pertaining to email, word documents and other basic software. In addition to having the ability to professionally transmit and monitor radio communications.
Preferred Education, Experience and Skills: Associate's Degree in Criminal Justice or related field. Customer service experience. Knowledge and experience in public safety procedures and techniques.
Required Licenses Or Certifications: State of Connecticut License for Security Officer (Guard Card). Valid driver's license.
High school level education or equivalent and two years of experience in security, law enforcement, military police, emergency response or customer service; or an Associate's degree and two years of experience.
