What will you be doing? In short, you'll work closely with our Finance and Operations team providing critical budgetary information to leadership and management. Our day to day work involves the maintenance, modification, analysis, and reporting of budgetary information. A clear understanding of financial reporting, data visualization, and data management along with an eye for accuracy are going to be critical to your success.
The Budget/Fiscal Analyst (Analyst') will be responsible for managing General Ledger (GL) data extracts for creating and updating monthly financial and other complex budget modeling reports using various systems and tools. The Analyst is also responsible for preparing Capital Property Reports and coordinating with UW Medicine Hospital Accounting; using UW and departmental financial systems; developing complex queries, extracts and reports used for payment accruals. The Analyst acts as liaison to the department regarding budget matters for complex depreciation schedules and reporting.
Extract data from GL, procurement, and other organizational systems/tools to design, develop, and prepare monthly financial reports, presentations, charts, graphs, and other complex computer budget models using data visualization software. (35%)
Modify and maintain GL extracts for all budgets within the department and update classifications to conduct various statistical analyses and modeling involving fiscal/budget data. Work with directors and managers to get variance explanations. (20%)
Calculate complex amortization schedules and identify/manage pre-paid account transfers. Review and analyze payment activity for purchase orders and campus charges to provide monthly accrual amounts to UW Medicine Accounting for GL entry. (20%)
Create Capital Property Reports to track capital inventory information. Coordinate with hospital accounting offices to get asset tags and provide them with the CPR info to begin depreciation, as well as report on asset retirements and moves. Coordinate with technical contacts for each capital order to ensure asset tags are applied to equipment. Manage asset inventory audits with technical contacts and hospital accounting. (15%)
Review professional credit card (ProCard) and Central Travel Account (CTA) transactions for accuracy prior to the monthly payment, analyze for identification of discrepancies, and trend analysis. (10%)
Perform other duties as assigned which includes but is not limited to:
Assist with maintaining accounting files for transfer to UW Medicine Records Management, shredding or moving to a different location.
Provide back-up support to other administrative unit staff members, when required.
Contribute to unit quality improvement efforts including the maintenance of process documentation via SharePoint.
What you'll bring to the table:
A Bachelor's Degree with major study in accounting, business administration, or related field and two years of work experience as a Fiscal Specialist, or equivalent combination of education/experience.
Additional Department Requirements:
Data visualization software experience, preferably with Tableau, Spotfire, or another similar BI tool.
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills to include creation and use of advanced formulas and manipulation and summarization of data.
Must have a high degree of accuracy in numeric calculations and a close attention to detail.
Ideally, you'll also have:
Strong organization skills in order to process a large volume of documents and e-mail.
Strong written and verbal communication skills to provide information in a clear, well organized and concise manner.
Ability to start work at the assigned time; must be prompt and dependable on a regular basis.
Willingness and ability to continually learn new procedures and computer applications.

This position works 8am to 5pm which includes one (1) 60-minute (unpaid) meal break and two (2) 15-minute (paid) rest breaks; Monday through Friday.
This position is located in an office environment at the Ninth and Jefferson Building.
