The American Association for Justice (AAJ) is seeking to fill the Deputy Director of Membership position in the Membership Department. AAJ seeks to promote a fair and effective civil justice system—and to support the work of attorneys in their efforts to ensure that any person who is injured by the misconduct or negligence of others can obtain justice in America’s courtrooms, even when taking on the most powerful interests.
Summary: The Deputy Director assists the Director in planning and administering the Membership Department activities. The Deputy Director is directly responsible for new member acquisition activities and the Regional Manager program.
Manage all ongoing efforts related to the goals of the Regional Manager program and ensure that the Regional Managers are meeting those goals set for them on an annual basis.
Formalize the processes and procedures that Regional Managers use while in the field, ensuring that Regional Managers are replicating their efforts in each of their regions.
Create and maintain a repository of best practices for Regional Managers to use and implement while in the field.
Compile weekly and monthly reports on all field activities.
Recommend, develop, and implement membership recruitment activities, campaigns, and other initiatives throughout the year to meet/exceed the department goals.
As staff liaison to the Marketing Department, ensure marketing functions are efficiently executed, high quality, and cost-effective, and that the growth/development objectives are met or exceeded.
Responsible for tracking membership marketing programs, assessing program impacts, and making modifications as needed.
Responsible for building and maintaining positive relationships with volunteers, peer societies, state TLAs, state TLA staff, and external organizations.
Responsible for management of outside vendors and consultants.
Assist the Director with management of the department and the department’s budget.
Management of one direct report (coordinator level) in D.C. and four regional managers.

Seven+ years of progressive experience working with associations or equivalent experience.
Experience working with a volunteer, governance-driven organization (i.e., professional & individual membership).
Knowledge of the legal profession, not required but preferred.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Excellent customer service and collaborative skills.
Proven ability to analyze, prioritize, and execute complex tasks under deadline and dedicate extra effort when necessary to complete assignments and achieve desired results.
Knowledge of netFORUM database strongly preferred.
Proficiencies in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and AMS databases.
