Administrative Optometric Technician will triage phone calls, in person patient encounters and secure messaging, detailing visual and ocular complaints and make independent decisions regarding scheduling appointments in the appropriate service; arranges and verifies insurance coverage; assists with patients arrival, communicates with other medical providers regarding patient care and referrals; supports Medical Records Department daily operations in accordance with state/federal regulations and college/university procedures governing medical records handling; understands HIPAA and data entry of confidential patient information; performs Release of Information duties in a secure and confidential manner; prepares and reviews medical records and prescriptions for completeness and accuracy; archives and purges medical records; manages spectacle, contact lens, and medication/medication refill requests from patients and attendings; scans documents/images into EHR and conducts quality reviews; delivers and retrieves records and manages supplies as needed; may assume other Medical Records duties in absence of manager; processes patient billing and coding sheets for accurate optometric procedures and diagnostic codes; understands and explains eye examination procedures and fees to patients, answers patient prescription related questions and patient questions based on medical record information; may order and dispense ophthalmic prescriptions, adjust spectacles and optometric aids and other optometric duties as necessary; may perform any of these duties in Patient Reception, Medical Records, Vision Rehabilitation, Binocular Vision/Pediatrics, Vision Therapy, Advanced Ocular Care or the Eyewear Gallery; performs other Administrative duties as needed.
Two year college degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
One year of experience in optometric or health care setting; graduate of two year optometric technician program, optician or apprentice optician; knowledge of practice management software; understanding of medical and administrative procedures; positive attitude and excellent oral and written communication skills.
Target Salary: $12.10 - $13.00 Hourly
