Safety Administrator (Classified MAPE)
This position is responsible for planning, directing, evaluating and implementing safety, environmental and emergency operations for the five colleges of the Northeast Higher Education District (NHED) so that the number and severity of employee accidents is minimized and compliance is met with local, state, and federal standards, laws and rules. This position also manages the worker compensation program and all mandatory training.
The position will be located at Hibbing Community College and reports to the Chief Human Resources Officer.
Three years' professional level experience in a related safety and health field such as occupational safety, risk management, or environmental science.
Knowledge of principles and practices of occupational safety and health.
Strong written and oral communication essential for writing reports, recommending modifications to policies/procedures and communicating to employees and college administration regarding health and safety issues.
Experience in developing, planning and/or training health and safety compliance programs.
Understanding of MN OSHA and Federal OSHA regulations.
Computer skills including Excel and Microsoft Word.
A valid MN driver's license.
Bachelor's degree in Industrial Safety or Hygiene, Public Health, Risk Management/Control, Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Safety Management or a closely related field.
First Aid, CPR and AED Certifications.
Data analysis sufficient to determine trends from summary reports.
Experience conducting inspections, determine compliance with and enforce adherence to laws and regulations governing occupational and environmental health and safety.
Safety equipment and equipment test procedures sufficient to require the use of specific equipment and to make recommendations on the purchase and modification of equipment.
Clear understanding of the Code of Federal Regulations pertaining to Health and Safety.
Certification as an ergonomics evaluator.
Ability to quickly and accurately analyze situations and procedures and recognize safety or health hazards that exist within them.
Be able to make timely effective decisions with very limited supervision.
Understanding of workers compensation laws.
Knowledge of Homeland Security (National Incident Management System and Incident Command Structure) and State directives related to emergency management.
