The primary purpose of this position is to perform all job responsibilities of a scheduler and front office Medical Assistant in the physician office setting. To ensure accuracy of data entered into the scheduling system including scheduling transactions, order entry, demographic and insurance/referral information. The Patient Services Representative will serve as a liaison between consumers (staff, patients, healthcare professionals and general public) and advocates the patients’ needs. Expert level training required.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Schedules, reschedules, cancels and confirms appointments for office visits, treatments, diagnostics and procedures in accordance with:
Clinical team’s guidelines
Treatment Center guidelines
Referral, authorization and registration processes
Enters orders for Laboratory, Radiology and Cardiology testing and procedures in the Electronic Medical Record assuring accuracy in:
Testing information (CPT codes)
Service dates and times
Communication to performing department or location.
Serves as a liaison between patient, physician and service providers to assist the patients in receiving timely and efficient appointments and information regarding testing, systems, procedures and resources. Provides patient with schedule itinerary, clinical summary and education instructions for testing/procedures.
Conducts thorough review of scheduled appointments and orders to verify accuracy of work performed throughout the clinic. Gives appropriate feedback to coworkers and Supervisor.
Greets patients to the Siteman Clinic, checks patients into IDX system, validates/updates demographic and insurance information, collects co-payments and obtains signed consent and/or responsibilities forms as indicated by department policy
Balances cash/credit and other transactions with receipt log at end of day according to department procedures.
High school diploma or GED; A Registered or Certified Medical Assistant with a minimum of 2 years of related work experience (examples of related fields include military medic, emergency medical technicians, Nurse’s Aide, physical therapy and nurse technicians, and certified athletic trainers); substitutions include
MA certification/registration eligible with successful completion of exam within 3 months of hire date or within a shorter time frame if noted by hiring manager
Graduate of an accredited nursing program (such as RN/LPN), or comparable allied health training program with a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience.
Must retain ABR or an active status as a Registered Medical Assistant with a professional organization such as AMT or AAMA.
Basic Life Support certification.
Graduate of an Accredited Medical Assistant program is highly preferred.
Two years or more of Medical Assistant experience. Electronic Medical Record experience.
Interactive communication skills with ability to work with physicians, patients, families, significant others, and support staff;
Must have strong interpersonal, organizational, and telephone skills, working knowledge of anatomy and physiology, fundamentals of medical terminology, and experience/knowledge working with electronic medical records.
The hiring range for this position is $15.24 - $18.68 per hour.
