Overview: Reporting to UNFI’s CEO, the Senior Vice President, General Counsel, Chief Compliance Officer & Corporate Secretary (“General Counsel”) will serve as a member of UNFI’s senior management team (“SMT”) and will share responsibility with other team members for execution of UNFI’s enterprise strategy as an overarching responsibility and priority. The General Counsel will also manage UNFI’s legal function while operating within its business focused culture and structure, oversee all legal matters, and serve as the primary legal advisor to the CEO, the organization’s SMT, and the Board of Directors. This position is located in Providence, Rhode Island, where the company is headquartered.

Compensation: Competitive salary and benefits.
Experience: The successful candidate will have at least twenty (20) years of legal experience, which includes service as a public company General Counsel. Foundational training at an American Lawyer (“AmLaw”) firm is required, as is experience in an in-house legal department in roles of increasing responsibility and visibility within that organization. The successful candidate will possess substantial experience with complex commercial contracts, M&A, securities, public company governance including board management, litigation management, intellectual property, ethics and compliance, and legal department management, among other areas. The successful candidate must be a business-minded lawyer with demonstrated leadership and relationship building skills, strong management experience and a proven track record of effectively developing and running a company’s legal function.
Relocation: Preference for candidates from the New York through Boston corridor, though candidates in other geographies will be considered.
Bar Admission: Admission to a state bar of any jurisdiction in the United States and a member in good standing in order to gain admission to practice in Rhode Island as an “In-house Counsel Attorney”, pursuant to the applicable Rhode Island court rules.
