POSITION: Program Officer, Chicago Forum on Global Cities
REPORTS TO: Director, Chicago Forum on Global Cities
The primary responsibility of the Program Officer, Chicago Forum on Global Cities is to work with the Director and a matrixed team to develop the Council’s signature event, the Chicago Forum on Global Cities, which convenes international leaders in commerce, civics, culture, and education to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing global cities around the world. The Program Officer establishes and maintains current and new relationships with external partners as well as is responsible for audience development and recruitment of Forum student delegations. The Program Officer works with a dedicated team producing this highly complex, thought-provoking event involving many hundreds of participants and dozens of world-renowned speakers in an international dialogue on global cities through a series of keynotes, flash talks, panels, workshops, and informal discussions with global peers. The fourth annual Forum will take place June 6-8, 2018.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Expand and enhance civic and international partnerships for the Forum; use varying communication approaches to promote and market Global Cities and other Council activities/publications through partners and their networks, furthering engagement with the Council
Research, identify, and build high-level invitation lists that reflect relevant and notable individuals, thought leaders, scholars, and practitioners from multiple sectors ensuring proper audience attendance at the Forum; strategize and create outreach opportunities and notifications for confirmed and potential audience members
Research, identify, and recruit internationally renowned leaders and secure their participation in a broad-based conference of panels, flash talks, workshops, and other discussions
Recruit student delegation, develop programming to optimize engagement, and plan/ execute all aspects of travel and any additional preparations/logistics
Develop, organize, and coordinate simultaneous, intricate pre-Forum excursions and parallel events
Assist with the coordination of private global city salon dinners and other select programs throughout the year to enhance the Councils’ work on cities
Provide support at Council events, requiring some evening and early morning hours
Occasionally assist at the front desk to relieve the reception and database services assistant in meeting/greeting Council constituents and handling incoming calls.
Perform other projects as assigned
Bachelor’s degree and 3+ years’ of relevant work experience with a strong interest in global affairs and urban issues
Excellent interpersonal skills, superb attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and ability to work with a team in a fast-paced and demanding environment
Experience in event planning, meetings scheduling, and conference organizing involving senior individuals and young professionals (government officials, corporate executives, policymakers, emerging professionals, and others)
Excellent organizational, time-management, and leadership skills, as well as professional maturity reflecting a sophisticated understanding of the political, economic, and civic communities in the Chicago area
Superior verbal and written communication skills
Flexible schedule in working late evenings/early mornings, as needed
