The Media Events Manager engages in planning, conceptualizing, implementing and managing press and media events as well as associated programs. The fundamental goal is to increase community awareness, advocacy and support for the University. The Media Events Manager will also be responsible for access to or knowledge of academic and community protocol and best practices for modern stage and media production.
The Media Events Manager will manage one full-time position. The Media Events Manager will effectively and creatively lead our efforts to plan and execute outstanding media and press events, community events and public affairs programming.
This is a hands-on position, reporting to and working closely with the Senior Director of Special Events. This individual must have excellent understanding and experience working on media and press events, experience with up to date staging and production standards and contacts with vendors in the industry.
In addition, this position will be responsible for events that come up in the life of the University: memorials, high-profile events and all public affairs events for local, state and federal government officials.
This position requires a flexible schedule. Weeknight and weekend work are required throughout the year.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
This individual must be self-motivated, proactive, creative and extremely organized with great attention to detail and able to multi-task and prioritize a great number of tasks/projects each day often in a fast-paced environment interacting with a wide range of people. This individual must have excellent customer service, interpersonal and communication (both verbal and written) skills. This individual must be able to work relatively independently on many projects. This individual must be adept with budgeting and have the ability to track spending throughout the year. This position demands excellent computer skills, with proficiency in Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint, administrative skills and willingness to stay on top of the latest upgrades as well as excellent knowledge of appropriate protocol.
A minimum of 3 – 5 years of events experience. Knowledge of the University and its physical campus. Knowledge of theater and media a plus.
