The State University of New York College of Optometry is accepting nominations and applications for a dynamic and bold individual to serve as its next Vice President for Institutional Advancement, and Executive Director of the Optometric Center of New York (OCNY). The College is a self-contained campus in the heart of Midtown Manhattan, and its tripartite mission of education, research and public service through patient care present attractive cases for institutional support.
Founded in 1971 and located in New York City, the College is a leader in education, research, and patient care, offering the Doctor of Optometry degree as well as MS and PhD degrees in vision science. The College conducts a robust program of basic, translational, and clinical research and has 65 affiliated clinical training sites. The OCNY now serves as the College’s affiliated foundation and home for its alumni association. Founded in 1956, the OCNY has a long and distinguished history of service to New York – first as a patient care facility and later as an endowing foundation.
The VP for Institutional Advancement Position and Opportunities:
The Vice President for Institutional Advancement (VPIA) provides leadership for advancement programming that complements and supports the mission of the College. This includes overall responsibility for private sector fundraising, donor development, grants, alumni relations, annual giving, government relations, special events and major gift campaigns. The VPIA reports to the President of the College and is responsible for the strategic planning, fiscal management, creation and implementation of programs that secure the resources needed for the College to achieve excellence in its educational, clinical and research missions. The VPIA is responsible for the overall administration of the Office of Institutional Advancement, which currently includes supervision of four employees directly—an Associate Vice President for Alumni and Government Relations, an Associate Director of Development, an Associate Director of the Annual Fund (and technology coordinator), and a Senior Administrative Assistant. The VPIA also serves as the Executive Director of OCNY, and in that capacity, interacts directly with the OCNY board and manages its board functions and institutional operations.
