Princeton University seeks a highly knowledgeable and skilled individual to serve as Senior Associate Director, Governance, in the Office of the Dean of the Faculty (ODOF). The Dean of the Faculty has administrative oversight of academic departments and programs and all matters pertaining to the effectiveness and well-being of the faculty and the professional researchers, specialists, and librarians.
The Senior Associate Director reports directly to the Dean of the Faculty, serves as a key member of the senior staff, supervises one staff member and has a dotted line supervisory relationship with the administrator of public lectures. The Senior Associate Director supports the ODOF by understanding and overseeing faculty governance processes, organizing and reporting the resulting information to University constituents, and serving as a resource for the ODOF and academic departments on faculty governance issues. The Senior Associate Director supports the work of the Trustee Committee on Academic Affairs, and prepares all ODOF material submitted to the committee for its review.
The Senior Associate Director serves as the principal contact for revisions to the Rules and Procedures of the Faculty and shepherds the revision process through the Faculty Advisory Committee on Policy and to the Faculty. This individual serves as the administrator for the Committee on Conference and Faculty Appeal and de facto secretary of the Faculty Advisory Committee on Policy.
The Senior Associate Director manages the hiring processes within the office of the Dean of the Faculty.
This individual represents the ODOF on various University committees, projects and initiatives, and communicates regularly with officers of the University, academic deans, department chairs and managers.
The specific responsibilities of the Senior Associate Director, Governance, include:
Serve as an advisor to the Dean on all faculty governance issues and manage revisions to Rules and Procedures of the Faculty.
Prepare periodic reports about faculty personnel actions to the academic affairs committee of Princeton's board of trustees and to the president of the University.
Oversee and manage the work of the Faculty Advisory Committee on Appointments and Advancements.
Oversee the referee solicitation process of the Committee on Appointments and Advancements for the Research and Technical Staff, and the Professional Librarians' Promotion, Continuing Appointment, and Review Committee.
Manage the review and approval process for senior faculty offer letters.
Act as de facto secretary of the Faculty Advisory Committee on Policy.
Serve as administrator for the faculty Committee on Conference and Faculty Appeal.
Oversee and manage endowed professorships and preceptorships, the Howard T. Behrman Award for Distinguished Achievement in the Humanities, and the Cotsen Family Faculty Fellowships.
Collaborate with University offices on limited submission prize nominations.
Hiring Manager (HR) for the Office of the Dean of the Faculty and oversee general office services for the ODOF.
Demonstrated success in a higher education or legal setting preferred.
Strong organizational and project management skills.
