Provides patron assistance at the Government Publications reference desk answering research and information questions. Provides assistance to Government Publications Librarian by processing and arranging all formats of library materials. Serves as back up personnel for the circulation department and assists with building closing.
- Public service duties involve: working with the public and answering research questions. Utilize online library catalogs, databases, Internet sites and in-house materials (in paper, microform and electronic formats) to answer research inquiries asked in person, by telephone or via email. Exercise judgment and discretion in determining the scope or level of service and refer patrons to reference librarian as needed. - Assist in providing outreach services for Government Publications, including training and orientations. - Conduct library orientations and produce displays in Government Publications and other campus venues. - Independently provide journey level technical services to the service unit. Process and arrange library materials in all formats. - Serve as back up for circulation department. - Assist with the closing and securing of the building. - Other duties as assigned
Significant library experience
Knowledge of library organization, practices and research techniques
Experience using Microsoft Office and/or similar application(s)
Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills¿
OR applicable combination of education and/or experience, which demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the position.
Experience working with Government publications
Familiarity with SUDOCS, WADOCS, Library of Congress and Dewey Decimal library classification systems
Experience with integrated computerized library systems
Experience creating displays, outreach and training
Experience maintaining manual and electronic alphanumeric filing systems

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule
Salary: $2425/month with periodic increases up to $3123/month
Schedule/Appointment: S unday - Thursday 3:15 pm - 12:15 am (1 hour meal break) OR Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm during training period and academic intersessions OR 12:15 pm - 9:15 pm during summer session / PSE Bargaining Unit 4
Working Conditions: Work is performed in an indoor office setting with frequent in-person interactions. It is essential to be able to remain at a desk/computer workstation for prolonged periods of time, perform extensive data entry and other computer-related tasks and create/maintain filing systems for departmental records. Some evening or weekend work and/or occasional travel may be required.
