The Office of General Counsel is seeking a qualified applicant to fill the position of Legal Secretary II. The Legal Secretary II will be responsible for providing support to the legal team and performing a wide range of administrative services and general office duties including those of a confidential nature. This position will also be responsible for prioritizing office activities and delegating work to student and/or casual employees, responding to inquiries displaying a comprehensive knowledge of the departmental policies and procedures, interacting with the general public and acting as NYU contact/liaison, interacting with University personnel including those at the senior level regarding specific issues and problems, preparing and assembling various legal papers and forms including Table of Authorities and Table of Contents on briefs, Exhibits, Affidavits of Service, Adjournments, and Stipulations, setting up new files; handling details of executing and filing documents, preparing closing memoranda and archiving closed files, customizing and/or composing letters in response to requests for information, performing general word processing duties utilizing intermediate to advanced-level functions and modifying and/or creating databases and spreadsheets.
Required Education: High School diploma or equivalent.
Preferred Education: Bachelor's degree.
Required Experience: 3 years of office experience in a legal environment.
Preferred Experience: 2 years of office experience in a legal environment, academic institution, large organization or government agency (with Associate's degree).1 year of office experience in a legal environment, academic institution, large organization or government agency (with Bachelor's degree).
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Proficiency with intermediate Microsoft Office, spreadsheet and database applications. Knowledge of citation searches, legal terminology, and electronic filing procedures. Moderate to fast word processing skills. Excellent written, oral communication and organizational skills. Ability to work collegially with diverse personnel.
