The Ames Laboratory a Department of Energy (DOE) funded national laboratory, affiliated with Iowa State University, is seeking an Administrative Specialist within the Division of Materials Science and Engineering (DMSE).
Responsibilities of this position include: perform accounting functions for four to five research projects, Field Work Proposals (FWP), within the DMSE; prepare budgets and reports by utilizing various computer programs to gather information and compile data and administer procurements and personnel matters related to the assigned FWPs. The annual budget for the assigned FWPs is ~$5M. Personnel actions will include faculty, postdocs, student – both graduate and undergraduate, P&S staff, and visiting scientists.
The successful candidate will possess excellent written and oral communication skills as well as the ability to work effectively with a diverse constituency of faculty, staff, students, and external sponsoring agencies.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree and 1 year of related experience; OR a combination of education and/or related experience totaling 5 years. Experience must be at a comparable level and directly related to the duties of this position.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Prior experience with Ames Laboratory and/or DOE or similar University or government processes and requirements.
Demonstrated experience with computers, especially the utilization of spreadsheets, word processing, database, presentation software, and e-mail applications.
Experience with budget development and monitoring and reconciling accounts.
