Budget Title: Assistant Facilities Program Coordinator (SL-3)
Salary: $25,000 - $33,000 (Part-Time 50%)
Binghamton University's physical facilities, nestled within 887 acres, consists of more than 100 structures totaling more than 5.2 million square feet (1.7M residential, 3.5M academic/research) with a current replacement value in excess of three quarters of a billion dollars. The Binghamton University community is made up of approximately 2,500 staff and over 16,000 full/part-time students; approximately 7,000 of who live on campus. The Physical Facilities (PF) Department, comprised of approximately 550 hard-working, diligent employees, is progressing another multi-million dollar, multi-year plan of capital renewal projects. This position shall conduct day-to-day functions around premise established by the Physical Facilities "Fundamental Management Objectives" (reference the Physical facilities web site).
The Architectural/Interior Designer/Project Coordinator position is a salaried, half time United University Professions represented professional position and would report to the Director of Design. This position is expected to work directly with the Senior Administration including the President and VP's, as well as with licensed design professionals in a team environment. In addition, this position will work closely with potential donors to determine the project facility needs in order to provide the best possible facility within the budget allotted for the project. Specific tasks include: developing a comprehensive scope of work, prepare design concepts including renderings, project budget cost estimates and potentially assist with development of final construction documents.
As a project coordinator, this position will concentrate efforts on constructability; minimizing the negative impacts of construction on campus operations, anticipate potential problems; focusing upon prevention and maintain communication with a multitude of entities. Specific reviews are conducted with interested campus committees and constituent groups.
Primary functions of position include the following:
Interface with Campus customers and potential donors to identify scope of work, create presentation drawings and computer generated renderings, prepare budget range estimate for the expected scope. Projects will range from moderately sized new construction and renovations to interior finishes including window coverings, flooring selections, furniture and color coordination.
Become familiar with Campus purchasing procedures and policies. Write purchase orders for materials and labor.
Utilize Campus maintenance software such as Maximo to create and track work orders.
Work with building mangers, communications and PF operations personnel, including asbestos abatement and trades staff to coordinate and schedule work.
Work with Auto Cad and/or Revit as well as Masterspec to prepare bid documents for contract work.
Visit job sites to review progress and answer clarifying questions. Review pay applications/invoices and recommend for payment.
Associates Degree in interior/architectural design or similar qualifications required, Bachelor's Degree preferred
Design/Project Coordination Experience to include - architectural, interior or related field experience - 2 years minimum required, 5 years preferred
Working proficiency in AutoCAD Architectural required and/or Revit preferred.
Proficiency in preparation of computer generated renderings and presentation drawings required.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) required.
Proficiency in Microsoft Project, Sketchup/3D Max or similar software is preferred
Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required in order to appropriately represent Physical Facilities when meeting with customers and other members of the design team.
Involvement with related trade associations, professional license/registration, certifications, etc. are preferred.
The Architectural / Interior Designer / Project Coordinator is a 50% salaried professional position with annual renewal requirements and is eligible for the excellent NYS benefits package.
