Texas Tech University (TTU) Office of International Affairs (OIA) is seeking dedicated and dynamic candidates for the position of Study Abroad Director. This position reports to the Vice Provost for International Affairs. The Director’s primary objective is providing direct support for all related educational activities which reflect efforts consistent with the university’s mission and values. Work is preformed collaboratively with colleagues on campus and with partner institutions to ensure coordination, compliance and smooth operation of international programs. The Director is responsible for managing a fiscally sound program that is financially self-sustaining.
Specific duties include but are not limited to:
Direct and supervise all Study Abroad office operations including program design, budget administration, website and database systems, promotion of Study Abroad, staff recruitment, hiring, training, and retention.
Design and implement Strategic Plan for the Study Abroad unit that supports the goals of the Office of International Affairs and the University.
Oversee the Study Abroad process including marketing, application, orientation, safety and liability issues, academic credit and evaluation.
Advocate for International educational experiences and serve as principal liaison with the faculty and departments to integrate international experiences into the curricula.
Oversee development, administration, and evaluation of reciprocal exchange, affiliate, and faculty-led programs.
Collaborate with the Director of TTU Center in Sevilla to develop, administer, and evaluate Center activities.
Coordinate with other university departments to develop, implement, and revise policies and procedures regarding Study Abroad programs at TTU.
Responsible for ensuring that Study Abroad is promoted campus-wide to include the Study Abroad Fair(s), marketing materials and promotional events.
Assist academic departments campus-wide to offer relevant Study Abroad programs for their students. Implement a transparent process for program approval of faculty-led, affiliate and reciprocal exchange programs.
Represent Study Abroad as a member of the Risk Assessment Committee.
Serve as the point-of-contact for crisis response involving Study Abroad participants.
Liaise with appropriate government agencies for reporting of statistical data on Study Abroad, such as Open Doors.
Represent the office and university at regional and national professional conferences. Keep abreast of best practices and trends in international education.
The Office of International Affairs (OIA) supports and facilitates the international mission of Texas Tech University. It provides services for faculty and students and offers international educational and cultural experiences for the University and community, and is a major contributor to the globalization process of the University and its growing reputation as a major international educational and research center.
Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in related area required plus five years progressively responsible management experience. Additional education may substitute for experience on a year for year basis.
Master's Degree or higher with previous experience and knowledge of post-secondary academic systems is preferred.
Thorough knowledge of Study Abroad best practices, especially in the area of risk management and faculty-led programs.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with other offices on campus to develop university policy and procedures for Study Abroad.
Extensive experience studying/living/working abroad and the ability to work with people from other cultures.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, faculty, university leadership and international partners.
Knowledge of diverse social identities and demonstrated commitment to constructing respectful, inclusive environments.
Active in the Forum on Education Abroad and/or NAFSA: Association for International Educators and use these organizations to keep abreast of developments in the field. Should have training in education abroad through these organizations. Should understand standards as set by the Forum.
