The mission of Virginia State University Athletics is to create academic and athletic champions in our Conference and the NCAA through excellence in Scholarship, Sportsmanship, Ethical Behavior, Community Service, and Diversity. The Virginia State University Athletics Department is seeking an Assistant Athletic Trainer; whose role is to create a positive, healthy and safe environment for all student-athletes in VSU athletic programs. The assistant athletic trainer is governed by the rules and regulations of Virginia State University, the National Athletic Trainers Association, the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA), and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The Assistant Athletic Trainer is responsible for the continued growth and development of student athletes through providing skilled instruction and injury prevention education. The Assistant Athletic Trainer will is also responsible for the treatment, examination, diagnosis, and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions. The Assistant Athletic Trainer will perform administrative duties and tasks associated with the medical treatment of student-athletes and supervise student workers in the Athletic training program. The Assistant Athletic Trainer will also complete other duties as assigned by VSU Administration.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Must have and maintain certification by the National Athletic Training Association. Must have current certification in CPR/AED. Must have a state-issued driver’s license. Must have the ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures. Must have the ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Ability to work in a diverse, team-oriented environment. Must be able to work evenings and weekends.
