Under supervision of Senior Director of Undergraduate Student Financial Services- Director of Financial Aid provides guidance to the financial aid operations staff. Assists with the implementation and enforcement of federal, state, and institutional student aid programs and enduring university compliance on policies, procedures, and regulations. Helps execute the delivery process in an equitable and timely manner that ensures conformity and consistency in financial aid packaging.
Time: Full time
Provide leadership and manage all undergraduate financial aid operations personnel including the selection, training, development and evaluation of staff.
Oversees the administration of workflow and timely processing for Undergraduate Financial Aid operations staff.
Oversees the quality assurance of undergraduate student files to identify and correct actual and potential liability areas by periodic file and record audits.
Works in cooperation with undergraduate Student Account team to resolve escalated financial issues.
Works in conjunction with Senior Director of Undergraduate Student Financial Services to update budgeted institutional funds for each new academic year.
Provides oversight of reconsideration requests for exceptions and additional aid.
Assists with the development and implementation of standard policies and procedures to ensure efficient, safe, and compliant operations.
Primary liaison internally with undergraduate admissions, academic, and athletic departments.
Attends seminars and workshops to remain current on legislation regarding student financial aid programs and administrative requirements
Represents the University at various community and/or business meetings, including high school and college fair financial aid information nights.

Exceptional leadership and management skills, ideally in a high-volume service center environment. Ability to delegate, support and motivate staff to achieve maximum performance.
Knowledgeable in all areas of financial aid: Federal Title IV and State regulations governing financial aid programs, determination of need, packaging procedures and resolution of problems.
Bachelor’s degree with five years direct work experience as a Financial Aid Officer or the equivalent.
Public speaking and presentation skills desired.
Ability to exercise important human relations skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with the Point Loma community
Ability to work independently and assume responsibility for problem solving sometimes under stressful conditions.
Computer proficiency is required (MS Word, Excel, ELM, and PowerFAIDS knowledge a plus).
Thorough knowledge of: Business English and arithmetic; general office methods, procedures and practices.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS The work is primarily sedentary and may require sitting for extended periods of time. Use of computer equipment: computer keyboard, mouse, and monitor. Vision to read documents, email and other correspondence, and reports on paper and computer monitor. Hearing and speaking to communicate effectively with others in person and by phone. Will also stand, stoop, push, pull, and lift up to 10 lbs throughout the day.
