The Distinguished Military Professor for Character is a renewable term appointment in The Division of Leadership Education and Development and is scheduled to begin the Fall semester of 2018. Responsibilities of this position will span both the ten-month academic year and the two-month summer intersessional period and include providing senior leadership for the Naval Academy’s Character Development program, coordinating closely with the Leadership, Ethics, and Law (LEL) Department to ensure that Midshipmen character development is complementary to the leadership and ethics core education, and teaching three sections of courses in the LEL Department each semester. Additional responsibilities include managing the Midshipman 1/C Character Capstone seminars and preparing and training facilitators for those seminars, mentoring Midshipmen and junior officers, and providing support to other programs at the Naval Academy in your role as a Senior Fellow of the VADM James B. Stockdale Center for Ethical Leadership, and other responsibilities as assigned. Summer intersessional period responsibilities include development, execution, and assessment of the Plebe Summer Character Education Program and Character Speaker Series and the training and support of the Plebe Summer Midshipmen Character staff.
The position is for a three year appointment with the possibility of renewal. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
