Job Description:Refund Representatives provide review and reconciliation of all credit balance and undistributed payment transactions for all ECUP clinical site services. They are responsible for effectively identifying the cause of all credit balances and undistributed payments within the EPIC EHR Patient Accounting System and resolving these within the policies and procedures as established by East Carolina University, ECU Physicians, Government payers, and third party payer contracts. Employees must be knowledgeable of the entire ECUP Revenue Cycle as well as compliance trends as it relates to billing and reimbursement, and assist in the prevention of potential errors that could be considered fraudulent or abusive by a third party payer. Miniumum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalency and one year of related office experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience. Preferred Education and Experience: The ideal candidate will possess a thorough knowledge of insurance company billing procedures and reimbursement. The selected candidate will be working within the refund section. Knowledge of accounting theory and principals is desirable. The candidate will possess proficiency in interpreting denials, payments and adjustments to patient's account within the billing system. Experience in a medical setting is preferred. Ideal candidates will possess a proven ability to communicate with patients, physicians and insurance companies. Current knowledge of CPT and ICD-9/ICD-10 is highly preferred. An Associate's Degree in a healthcare related field is preferred; or demonstration of knowledge, skills and abilities gained through at least two years of experience in an outpatient medical office environment: or an equivalent combination of training and experience is desirable.
