The University Of Maryland, Baltimore is seeking an Advisor to the President . This position is responsible for providing professional, high-level staffing of the president and his agenda on a daily basis. The tasks included are planning and coordinating long- and short-term projects in the university's priority areas; and acting as a liaison between the president's executive office and others, particularly on internal, oftentimes confidential, matters requiring tact, discretion, and judgment.
The position will work closely with the Vice President and Chief Communications Officer/Special Assistant to the President and the Senior Director of Leadership Communications to ensure efficient and seamless continuum of support for the President. This position will be privy to specialized, sensitive, and private confidential information, conversations, and communications.
Jay A. Perman, MD, became the sixth president of the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) in July 2010. UMB is Maryland's only public health, law, and human services university.
Dr. Perman is strengthening UMB's role in improving the health and well-being of its closest neighbors. In 2013, he established the Center for Community-Based Engagement and Learning to expand UMB's scholarly work on behalf of children and families in West Baltimore. He subsequently inaugurated the Office of Community Engagement to coordinate UMB's varied outreach projects—again, with special emphasis on West Baltimore—and to leverage resources so that the University may respond quickly and effectively to identified community needs.

Provide assistance and support to the president by planning, developing, and coordinating long- and short-term, often complex, projects. Prepare status reports on project plans, progress, and results of activities.
Support the president by overseeing external commitments, facilitating access to the president, and coordinating projects and initiatives.
Act as a liaison with external constituencies including city and state government officials, Board of Regents, University System of Maryland president colleagues, community and corporate leaders, Board of Trustee members, alumni and others.
Prepare briefing materials for presidential meetings; participate in meetings and provide after-meeting briefings and updates to relevant leadership. Attend meetings with the president as well as represent the president at meetings.
Collect data or research on topics internally or externally related to the needs of the president and president's office staff and present findings in a manner for executive level reporting.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Education: Master's degree.
Experience: Eight (8) years of higher education, health care, non-profit, or state government experience. Occasional travel, as well as evening and weekend work may be required.
