The Student Union Technology Specialist for Campus Life is responsible for administration of IT systems, and technological and business solutions within Campus Life and Student Union. This position serves both the Campus Life staff and the Student Union – student government and student groups – by providing technology coordination for the department. Responsibilities include the integration of software systems, the SU web design, and design and maintenance of Campus Life web presence. The Technology Specialist will directly report to the Associate Director for Campus Life – Student Involvement.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for managing the daily administration of the IT systems within Campus Life including project management and implementation of Student Union undergraduate student government and student group technological and business solutions. Examples of the work include:
Planning and executing projects to update server software. Analysis of business needs and available technology to address business requirements.
Analysis of IT problems and performance issues. Make recommendations for solutions.
System documentation preparation: prepare designs, technical specifications, and documentation for new applications, application enhancements, and bug fixes.
Work with WUIT to create, document, schedule, and support operational activities including backups and recoveries.
Maintain and support group management system, including budget management system.
Manage and coordinate the online execution of Student Union elections and related technology as well as the implementation of the waiver system.
Manage software vendors and external service providers with a focus on systems integration and business-to-business connectivity of internally developed software, cloud- based vendor projects, and other University maintained software. Evaluate and recommend vendor solutions.
Website Content Management – Manage Campus Life and SU website content as well as provide support for cloud-based, vendor provided web pages for student groups through the group management Campus Labs product. Responsible for the design, design and content updates of the Campus Life websites. Provide training to student groups on using the website template each semester.
Hold regular office hours accessible to student groups to provide on-the-spot support.
Schedule regular reviews and updates of Campus Life websites with professional staff.
Serve as an active part of the Student Involvement team within Campus Life, attending team meetings and contributing to the overall goals of fostering student involvement and participation in Student Union and other student groups.
Collaborate with WUIT to determine technical support required and the priority level for maintenance and upgrade of hardware and software for Student Union and Campus Life technology with WUIT. Make recommendations, search for solutions, and liaison with WUIT viability. Make recommendations on large scale student facing technology needs.
Overall management of Campus Life WUSTL Box file infrastructure. Develop and provide training, resources and support for staff in the area of possible technology solutions.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Associates degree plus 3 years of related experience to include general system administration and support of Windows and Windows Server, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Significant experience with use and management of business applications in web-based environments including web measurement tools and metrics
Knowledge and experience in developing web sites using Word Press in addition to various Web development languages, graphics packages and content management solutions is required
Experience with design, implementation and support of relational databases which integrate with Web-based applications
Basic understanding and troubleshooting of programming code
Experience evaluating, designing, and implementing administrative computer systems
Familiarity with both Windows and Macintosh environments
Experience working with college students in a higher education environment
Ability to prioritize multiple projects and meet multiple deadlines
Ability to translate technical topics for lay audiences
Ability to work independently
Ability to adjust a weekly work schedule to respond to needs
Demonstrated aptitude to quickly and effectively adapt to technologies outside of current experience
Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, the ability to collaborate with individuals from a wide variety of backgrounds
Previous experience in project management skills
Possess significant knowledge of client server and internet systems architectures
Understand browser specific compatibility issues
The hiring range for this position is $43,231 - $61,000annually.
