Advertised Summary Job Description: Reporting to both the Vice President for Government & Community Affairs (GCA) and the Director of the Office of Service-Learning (OSL), the Program/Research Associate (RPA) will have two primary responsibilities. The RPA will work with the OSL director to create and implement programing. He/she will also work with the GCA office to conduct research and do other tasks to assist members of the GCA staff.
Key Functions and Responsibilities:
OSL -Assist with developing, implementing, and evaluating OSL programs -Establish new and strengthen existing community-campus partnerships between the community, CUMC students, faculty, and staff -Develop an expertise in service-learning in order to support faculty, students, and community partners -Work with students and faculty to develop their knowledge and skills using service-learning -Work with community partners to identify community needs related to health issues and help find appropriate CUMC partners to address them -Assist in planning and organizing OSL events and programs
GCA -Conduct research on legislative, policy, and community affairs issues -Compose memos to brief GCA staff and others on the subjects mentioned above -Lobbying activities as needed - Other office support activities as needed
General Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience plus at least three years directly related experience.
Additional Specific Minimum Qualifications: Excellent research, written and oral communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills required. Possess the ability to handle multiple tasks. Possess extensive knowledge of database and desktop publishing systems.
Preferred Qualifications: Familiarity with health care issues, government, the Washington Heights/Inwood area, and bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus. Experience in higher education, service-learning, community-campus partnerships also helpful.
