Summary: Reporting to the Executive Director of Summer Quarter, the Residential Director (RD) is responsible for the overall design and management of the residential components of Summer Session programs at the University of Chicago, including the recruitment, selection, hiring, training and supervision of the contingent residential staff who oversee over 800 academically talented and motivated high school and undergraduate residential program participants each summer. The RD will directly supervise and evaluate the senior residential team (three Assistant Residential Directors), who in turn oversee 30-35 Residential Assistants. The RD takes the lead in the selection, training, and oversight of the residential staff, including design and implementation of staff training, on-going professional development for staff while programs are in session, enhancing student programming, and building out a robust set of program policies and documentation. The RD will be the main liaison with Campus Dining and Residential Services offices, as well as Student Health, Student Counseling, and other offices which provide essential support for Summer Session programs. During the summer, the RD coordinates student disciplinary procedures and staff response (in partnership with the Dean of Students) to medical and other incidents that occur among student participants, and is a point of highest escalation on the Summer Session team for challenging situations. At the end of the summer, the RD will lead the staff performance review process, and assist with the research that monitors and assesses student satisfaction with residential components of Summer Session programs. The RD will contribute to improvement of program rules and regulations which govern staff and student life, and to the strategic planning discussions that will guide the growth of programs in the future. This is not an in-residence position, but the RD will be expected to be frequently on call while Summer Session programs students are in residence. Evening and weekend hours will also be required when programs are in session. Sharing of forms with stakeholders. 10% Contribute to discussions relating to program growth and strategic planning10% Contribute to discussions relating to program selection, courses to be offered, and other program decisions as they pertain to the residential components of the programs.
