The American Hospital Association (AHA) is a national organization that represents and serves all types of hospitals, health care networks, and their patients and communities. We are currently seeking a Content Development Specialist - Membership for the American Society for Healthcare Risk Management (ASHRM) located in our Chicago office.
The Content Development Specialist is part of the Education and Content Team that assists with ASHRM’s education, content development and delivery processes. Works collaboratively with the Director of Risk Management and the entire ASHRM team. Works with the Senior Education Specialist to maintain ASHRM’s virtual content and educational offerings. Participates as a staff liaison on multiple content and education committees such as Education and Content, Editorial Review Board, and others as assigned. Works in collaboration with internal and external content subject matter experts to support the identification and defining of content needs.
The American Society for Healthcare Risk Management (ASHRM) is a personal membership group of the American Hospital Association (AHA) with nearly 6,000 members representing risk management, patient safety, insurance, law, finance and other related professions. ASHRM promotes effective and innovative risk management strategies and professional leadership through education, recognition, advocacy, publications, networking and interactions with leading healthcare organizations and government agencies.
Organizes content, develops timelines, assigns work and follows up with writers and editors, and ensures final manuscript is sent to production.
Edits and proofreads all publications, which includes playbooks, manuals, textbooks, and journals.
Facilitates the Journal submission and peer review process. Works independently to manage the relationship with the Journal publisher.
Keeps abreast of key issues faced by membership, identifies, and recommends professional resources needed by the membership. May perform gap analysis to identify changes to existing resources.
Supports development of new content to enhance the value of an established offering.
Assists with ASHRM’s portfolio of online education opportunities. Partners with staff content expert and member/volunteer education task forces in the development of content.
Supports faculty and their role in the content development process through updating their slides, speaker notes, and supporting the annual conference committee.
Assists with the delivery of online educational programs. Produces e-based courses using e-based authoring tools, and working collaboratively with the technology staff.
Works collaboratively with the communications staff in the promotion and marketing of educational programs.
Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Bachelor's degree in Education or Healthcare related.
3-5 years experience with a minimum 3 years of experience within healthcare or risk management is required.
Experience coordinating multiple projects including content or publications.
Experience with adult education or training is strongly preferred.
Knowledge Requirements: Knowledge of healthcare or risk management is required; knowledge of curriculum development and with adult learning methods is required. Knowledge of instructional design is preferred. Intermediate knowledge of editing and proofreading.
Knowledge of competency-based curriculum design is a plus.
Intermediate computer and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) skills are required.
Experience with a learning management system is preferred.
Experience with contemporary e-learning technologies and platforms is preferred.
Ability to be a self-starter and to demonstrate inquisitive skills; to multi-task, coordinate multiple projects with competing deadlines; to develop steps to complete a project and resourcefulness; to work collaboratively with volunteers and staff. Ability to maintain high professional and personal standards and to demonstrate integrity in handling confidential information. Ability to work as a team member and take on new responsibilities as necessary.

Experience with e-based authoring tools (Articulate, Captivate, etc.) is preferred.
