Ethical Culture Fieldston School is a Pre-K through 12 independent school serving students throughout New York City and the surrounding suburbs. Committed to academic excellence, ethical learning, and progressive education, ECFS offers a rich and challenging curriculum in the arts, sciences and humanities. A coed, nonsectarian school, it serves a diverse community of approximately 350 faculty and staff and 1,700 students on two campuses--one in the Riverdale section of the Bronx and the other in Manhattan.
The Director of After-School Programs will be responsible for the daily after school program at Fieldston Lower School on the Riverdale campus, providing enriched childcare for approximately 250 students in Pre-K through 5th grade. The Director will also oversee a diverse offering of after school programs at Fieldston Middle School, also on the Riverdale campus, for approximately 400 students in grades 6 through 8. This position is responsible for a wide range of supervisory and planning activities. The Director of After-School Programs reports to the Chief Operating Officer.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Director of After-School Programs will:
Develop curriculum programs in collaboration with principals and evaluate quality of programs and teaching;
Provide updated semester course descriptions for school website;
Manage on-line registration and monitor course enrollment;
Manage a variety of marketing techniques to promote after school programs;
Recruit and hire professional staff to support program needs;
Respond via phone and email to a wide variety of inquiries;
Allot, monitor, process course budgets as necessary;
Coordinate day to day operations , including use of facilities and taking staff and student attendance;
Supervise staff and students to ensure safe environment and shared expectations;
Collaborate proactively with parents and school personnel;
Create and process payroll and new hire paperwork;
Liaise with the dining service provider to procure snacks;
Perform other duties as necessary to ensure success of the After School Programs at Fieldston Lower School and Fieldston Middle School.
Minimum 3 years’ experience in teaching
Administrator level experience in child and curriculum development
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); familiarity with Google applications a plus, and web-based databases
Customer-service approach to employee and parent relations
Ability to maintain the highest levels of discretion and confidentiality
Effective communication skills, both written and verbal
