The Metropolitan Center for Research on Equity and the Transformation of Schools (NYU Metro Center) at New York University seeks a qualified candidate for the role of Budget and Operations Manager for Policy, Research, and Evaluation. We seek an individual with a strong foundation in accounting, budget management, finance, operations management, and grant processing. The ideal candidate will have experience performing cutting edge finance, budget, operations, and communication tasks in the following sub areas: grant review and reporting, pre- and post-award grant/contract support, experience architecture and user experience; digital and social media; writing, editing, and organizational management.
The applicant must have demonstrated interest in issues of equity and social justice, preferably in education (e.g., culturally responsive education, anti-racist education, trauma informed practices, restorative justice), privileging a strengths-based framework in her or his philosophy.
The applicant must be interested in managing a team (or teams) of student assistants and other key administrative duties (see below). The applicant must be supported by three strong, positive letters of recommendation.

The Budget and Operations Manager is a full-time professional position. The position works in collaboration with the Executive Director, the Deputy Executive Director of Policy, Research and Evaluation, the Director of Policy, Research, and Evaluation, the Director of Finance, and NYU Metro Center PIs. The position is supervised and evaluated by the Director of Finance. On-going educational and professional development opportunities will be provided.
The Budget and Operations Manager will shape, manage, and drive the implementation of an effective budget and finance campaign for all policy, research, and evaluation related work at NYU Metro Center, while managing PRE’s internal/external finance systems (reimbursements, contracts, etc.).
Responsibilities include, but will not be limited to:
Assisting with pre- and post-award financial administration of a diverse portfolio of government, private, public grants, internal grants, and contracts of varied complexity, ensuring that they are administered in a fiscally responsible manner, complying with all applicable rules and regulations established by both the sponsor agency and the University and in coordination with the Manager of Grants;
Ensuring that salary and OTPS grant expenses are allocated as budgeted in a timely manner;
Secures timely and accurate quarterly attestations from PI in coordination with their administrative aide, for the assigned grants portfolio following Sponsored Projects and University requirements;
Maintaining records in accordance with internal procedures, demonstrating compliance with sponsor and the sponsor agreements and University regulations concerning equipment, project expenditures and other fiscal concerns;
Providing efficient and effective post-award accounting services to PIs, including monthly grant reconciliations, grants financial reporting;
Preparing monthly/quarterly financial reports;
Assisting in transacting and documenting grants related OTPS cost transfers, salary cost transfers, and salary distributions;
Assisting, as required, in quarterly and annual budget procedures including loading grants fiscal year budgets and salary to budget tool;
Assisting, as required, in budget variance analysis;
Assisting in the University year end closing procedures, including but not limited to, ensuring there is no grant overrun, all necessary grant expenses have been posted;
Booking and tracking travel expenses
Assisting, as required, in grants invoicing, closeout, and validations;
Assisting, as required, in NYU's ERS process
In addition to the items detailed above, the successful candidate should have:
At least 3-5 years of relevant experience in all or a combination of finance, organizational management, budgeting/accounting
A bachelor’s degree or higher in finance, accounting, or an equivalent field
Demonstrate excellence in organizational, managerial, and communication skills
Excellent written and verbal communications skills
Ability to manage timelines and project budgets effectively
Capacity to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Excellent computer skills, with regular use of spreadsheets, word processing, presentation and finance software and systems, and so on
Ability to work well with diverse individuals and balance a variety of needs
