Reporting directly to the Yale Cancer Center Office of Translational Research, the Senior Research Associate is responsible for the management of projects as well as writing and editing of documents related to the clinical and translational research efforts of investigators in YCC. He/she will contribute scientific knowledge, analytical and writing skills, and team communication to the analysis of data, preparation of clinical trial and grant documents, and planning and production of scientific reports, with particular emphasis on complex multi- investigator award mechanisms such as the CCSG and SPORE applications. Duties will include working with clinical and basic science investigators and statisticians in writing manuscripts, foundation and government grant applications, clinical trial protocols and required support documents. Must remain abreast of the latest advances in oncology research findings and clinical trials via attendance at scientific and related medical meetings, continuous literature review, and gathering scientific market intelligence through review of press releases, announcements, and industry news related to private sector and academic partners, collaborators, and competitors. He/she will collaborate with clinical trials office staff for the execution of clinical trial protocols and will interact with various local and federal regulatory committees as needed. He/she will coordinate with other scientific and clinical staff/consultants providing subject matter expertise for scientific writing and will train, mentor, and supervise junior staff members in the preparation of similar documents as needed.

Required Skill/ability 1: Ability to independently plan for major grant submissions and scientific publications. Prepare sections of grant applications, scientific manuscripts, clinical trial protocols and other regulatory documents.
Required Skill/ability 2: Demonstrated ability to plan and organize amendments to existing clinical protocols. Lead the organization and writing of formal proposals (grant, philanthropic, and contract).
Required Skill/ability 3: Demonstrated ability in developing formal presentation content (including abstracts, posters, slides, and manuscripts). Ability to organize and participate in meetings and conference calls with key internal and/or external partners/stakeholders; capture and communicate action items; facilitate follow-up on action items.
Required Skill/ability 4: Ability to review work of other writers for accuracy, quality, focus and adherence to appropriate format and stylistic requirements. Ability to train and mentor junior faculty/staff members in the preparation of documents.
Required Skill/ability 5: Demonstrated ability to assume project manager role for those projects that entail primarily medical writing department deliverables.
