The Asia-Pacific Credit Risk Department ("CRD") is a pillar of Firm Risk Management, responsible for the evaluation of credit risk transactions and approves, rejects, or modifies them considering the availability and appropriateness of arrangements for reducing risk or risk mitigation. The department also assigns Internal Credit Ratings; establishes and manages credit risk limits in accordance with the risk tolerance established by the Board; monitors and reports on credit risk exposures on a regular basis to the Chief Risk Officer and Firm Risk Management. CRM also interacts with business units to ensure that credit risk assessments are factored into business decisions.
Morgan Stanley's Hong Kong Firm Risk Management Division is looking for an experienced Associate to join cross-stripe risk team primarily covering Credit Risk Management (focus on funds within the Financial Institutions credit coverage team) with some cross-over into Liquidity Risk Management from a prime brokerage and derivatives perspective.
The principal responsibilities of the role include primary coverage for funds focusing on asset managers, hedge funds, private equity funds, and SPVs, as well as, providing analytical support to senior coverage officers on various credit risk management and regulatory related projects. The role will cover CRM oversight of the prime brokerage business, electronic trading, and intraday risk. This includes:
Performing initial and ongoing assessments of new counterparties (e.g. due diligence and portfolio risk evaluation)
Analysis of credit risk-related transactions and provide limits and trade approvals up to delegated credit authority or recommendations when beyond authority
Documentation approvals including ISDA/CSA, prime brokerage and secured funding agreements
Independently assess and recommend credit ratings, LGDs, and credit limits for clients
Real-time oversight of the electronic trading activity
Monitor portfolio quality on an ongoing basis and perform stress testing analysis
Represent Asia-Pacific in global projects and committees
Skills required (essential)
Strong academic background, preferably an advanced degree in a quantitative discipline or equivalent
Minimum 4 years relevant experienced in Credit or Counterparty risk in hedge fund analysis and/or prime brokerage)
Broad knowledge across various asset classes including interest rates, foreign exchange, equities and credit instruments
Demonstrable track record of working under pressure and managing multiple projects with limited supervision
Strong analytical skills, sense of ownership, self-motivator, and innovative problem solver
Understanding of stress testing
Knowledge of documentation including ISDA, CSA, GMRA, Prime Brokerage and Listed Derivative Agreements
