The Director for Research Partnerships reports directly to the Vice Chancellor for Research, Economic Development and Engagement (REDE). This position will develop, oversee and help implement programs and projects that actively engage corporations in partnership with research faculty across East Carolina University. This position will play a critical role in supporting REDE's mission to actively grow the research enterprise across the University. The Director will be required to work closely with university leadership, faculty and staff across the university as well as representatives from companies engaged in different sectors of the economy.The Director of Research Partnerships will work with REDE leadership within the Office of Research Development and Partnerships to identify and target appropriate research themes with a goal of doubling corporate funding in 5 years. Additionally, the Director will lead efforts to develop research opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students with regional and multi-national corporations including internships and capstones.The Director will be required to undertake extensive quantitative research, data analysis and data visualization, development of detailed budgets and highly technical reports, requests for proposal responses, grant applications and other documents and presentations. Travel both regionally and nationally is required.

Requires a master’s degree and two years of directly related experience which includes demonstration of successfully developing research projects exceeding $1 million between private sector (industry) and academic institutions, as is experience of leading projects with diverse stakeholders on research projects. The Office of the Vice Chancellor provides vision, strategic direction, and oversight for activities related to the promotion of research and research administration; engagement, innovation and economic development; and centers and institutes. The Office of the Vice Chancellor represents the campus in the aforementioned matters to the Chancellor, Executive Council, Academic Council, ECU campus at large, the University of North Carolina, and external entities – such as government agencies, private foundations, national organizations, industry, and regional communities. Staff within the Office work closely with stake-holders to develop, maintain, and ensure accountability for institutional and interdisciplinary programs involving research, economic development, and engagement. The following units report through the Office of the Vice Chancellor and are integrally involved in meeting the responsibilities of the Office: University Research Council (URC), University Economic Development and Engagement Council (EDEC), Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), Office of Innovation and Economic Development (OIED, including the Office of Technology Transfer), Office of Grants & Contracts (OGC), Office of Research Integrity and Compliance (ORIC, including the Institutional Review Board), Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP), Office of Postdoctoral Affairs (OPA), Undergraduate Research (UR), and Office of Community Engagement & Research (CER).
