UMKC is seeking an innovative and strategic leader to serve as Vice Provost of Student Affairs/Dean of Students. The mission of Student Affairs is to provide leadership in attracting and developing a diverse student population through a vibrant and engaging collegiate experience that supports students in defining and achieving their personal and educational goals.
The Vice Provost for Student Affairs/Dean of Students provides leadership, vision and strategic direction for Student Affairs and Student Engagement and serves as a key member of the Provost's leadership team. The Vice Provost/Dean of Students provides direction in long-range planning for each of the Student Affairs/Student Engagement units including personnel supervision and evaluation, budget planning and oversight, assessment, facility planning, service excellence, crisis management, and collaboration with other units, faculty and staff. This position must continuously re-examine the priorities and effectiveness of the various units in accordance with UMKC's strategic plan, and with the university's mission. The Vice Provost for Student Affairs/Dean of Students will lead the Assistant Dean of Student Affairs, Assistant Dean of Student Engagement and oversee student programming for campus auxiliaries in the following areas:

Foster a dynamic and highly engaging student experience that enhances educational opportunities, sense of belonging and success
In collaboration with university leadership, develop a student culture where diversity is honored and where students learn to respect differences, take responsibility for their actions, and exercise leadership
Develop and implement long term strategic plan for Student Affairs, ensuring goals are in aligned with the University's mission and values
Provide leadership for the development, implementation and evaluation of policies and regulations pertaining to the Student Affairs
Ensure alignment of student learning outcomes for student affairs programming with university academic learning outcomes
Coordinate Student Affairs' response to major crisis and other unusual events impacting students within the University Community
Demonstrated record of experience as a successful professional in Student Affairs
Demonstrated knowledge of strategic planning and systematic decision-making, best practices and understanding of current national trends in college student success models
Demonstrated knowledge of theories and policies involving student affairs
Knowledge of laws and regulations as well as related federal and state laws
A demonstrated record of supporting student success
Sensitive, diplomatic, and highly articulate written and verbal communication skills
A proven track record of entrepreneurship and innovation in higher education
The ability to establish and maintain a positive image for the University, and create and sustain positive working relationships with internal and external constituencies
Demonstrated experience in working in a diverse higher education community
Demonstrated commitment to importance of high quality, accessible public higher education
Demonstrated skills in developing and managing complex budgets
A strong record of success as a supervisor, including but not limited to performance evaluation, professional development, setting individual goals, and assessment of performance effectiveness
