The Office of Alumni Engagement is a part of the University Advancement Division and collaborates with university departments, academic units and alumni volunteers to engage UMSL's network of over 98,000 alumni.
Plans and implements programs and projects that strategically engage alumni in advancing the mission of the university and provide tangible benefits to alumni and current students.
Serves as a liaison between the Alumni Association Governing Board and the University's administrative leaders.
Secures commitments from alumni to provide professional expertise and volunteer service.
Collaborates with colleagues in the University's administration, including, but not limited to Student Affairs, Academic Affairs and University Advancement, to create and maintain pathways for alumni participation that advance the goals of the University.
Partners with University Advancement colleagues to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward alumni giving.
Reports to the Associate Vice Chancellor of Alumni Engagement.
Alumni Association Governing Board (50%)
Serves as administrative liaison with the UMSL Alumni Association Governing Board of Directors:
Serves ex-officio as the Executive Director of the Alumni Association and is a non-voting member of all Standing Committees
Serves as corresponding secretary
Works closely with the Alumni Association president and executive committee in facilitating the governing board meetings and programs
Ensures Alumni Association By-Laws and Policies and Procedures are followed
Promotes strong and productive relationships between alumni members and the academic and administrative leadership of the University
In coordination with the University's chief alumni officer, delegates UMSL Office of Alumni Engagement staff as liaisons for the committees of the Board and alumni affinity organizations.
Alumni Academic Affinities (40%)
Collaborates and partners with administrators and faculty members in the College of Arts and Sciences, Fine Arts, Optometry and Nursing to develop alumni engagement programs that will advance the University by building strong and positive relationships between the alumni and their alma mater, its students, faculty members, staff members and fellow alumni.
Serves as administrative liaison to 7-10 alumni volunteer affinity groups organized to support the specific mission and goals of the various alumni segments.
Departmental and Division Administrative Duties (10%)
Collaborates closely with University Advancement colleagues in increasing support from alumni; routinely identifies and qualifies alumni prospects for gifts.
Creates contact reports for significant alumni interactions including face to face meetings, events, committee meetings, telephone conversations and e-mails.
Works with Associate Vice Chancellor of Alumni Engagement to establish and follow an annual plan with clear performance projections and metrics.
Remains current on the UMSL strategic plan, goals, priorities, programming and needs in order to communicate effectively with alumni and students.
Reviews publications regularly to remain informed and anticipates changes in best practices within alumni relations to better serve UMSL's alumni population.
BA/BS degree required.
5 or more years alumni relations experience, or closely related field that includes volunteer management.
Demonstration of the following:
Experience managing multiple volunteers, especially boards of directors, individuals, and other groups.
Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to understand, navigate and thrive in large, complex organizations.
Ability to prioritize, to manage multiple projects, and to work efficiently and independently.
Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with both internal and external partners.
Experience with project planning, initiation and management, with ability to successfully complete projects from start to finish.
Experience and skills related to social media strategy and implementation.
Basic understanding of financial and accounting terms. Basic knowledge of QuickBooks is a plus.
Intermediate to advanced understanding of Windows Office including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Publisher.
