Ames Laboratory, a multi-disciplined national scientific research laboratory operated through a contractual agreement by Iowa State University (ISU), is seeking applicants for the position of Ames Lab Information Officer. This position will be responsible for providing strategic direction and intellectual leadership for Ames Laboratory Enterprise Information Systems (EIS) programs, staff, and infrastructure. The Officer will lead the development and formulation of strategic vision for EIS and actively communicate and direct that vision. The Officer reports to the Laboratory Director and will lead and manage the strategy for delivering appropriate, high-functionality and cost-efficient IT services including support for high-performance computing as well as data and voice networks, back-office infrastructure, user support, and business systems. Key areas of focus are cyber security, network security, and communications. Additionally, this role is responsible for the collaboration and integration of information technologies (IT) services with ISU where applicable and for seeking and pursuing further opportunities to leverage ISU's IT infrastructure and services.
The successful candidate will possess a combination of leadership and management skills with an IT background and the ability to communicate with stakeholders. In addition, the successful candidate will have demonstrated a high level of technical accomplishment in information technology, as well as the management and leadership abilities necessary to operate a diverse team-oriented organization; and will have demonstrated leadership and communication of advanced computing and information projects. The ability to interact at the highest levels of management within Ames Laboratory, Iowa State University, and the Department of Energy is required. Excellent communication skills for writing, presenting, and implementing IT strategy and business plans are necessary for success in this position.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree and 8 years of related experience; OR a Master’s degree and 6 years of related experience; OR a Ph.D. or other professional degree and 3 years of related experience unless otherwise specified under supplemental required education and experience.
Preferred Education and Experience:
- IT leadership experience in the areas of: network infrastructure technology, cyber security, wireless access, and IT technology development projects. - Documented experience in process improvement related to IT. - Demonstrated internal/external IT collaboration (government agencies, industry, academic institutions). - Experience in developing organization-wide Strategic Plan in relation to IT needs. - Prior experience with IT related capital projects.
It will be required for the incumbent to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy. As such, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse program testing designated position which requires participation in an ongoing random drug testing program.
This position serves at the pleasure of university administration and is exempt from certain P&S policies.
