<p>Duties/Responsibilities:<br />Culture clinical milk samples and environmental samples submitted to the laboratory by dairy producers. Perform microbiological isolation, identification and in vitro susceptibility testing of pathogenic and enviromental organisms to support veterinary clinical diagnostics. Perform quality control procedures to ensure testing accuracy. Package and ship media plate orders of plates produced in our media laboratory for sale to clients.<br />Operates and maintains a variety of routine clinical diagnostic laboratory instruments and equipment in the collection, processing, description and analysis of specimens.<br />Evaluate raw and final data for accuracy; recognizes and corrects errors; recognizes unusual results and takes appropriate action. Compile data and prepare reports for supervisor, clients and pathologists.<br />Review literature to keep abreast of current tests.<br />Assist with writing Standard Operating Procedures.<br />Perform daily quality control on prepared media (including checking media for contamination and proper growth patterns, sub-culturing control organisms, and keeping records of results).<br />Adheres to practices and regulations governing biosafety and biosecurity in the workplace. <br />Perform general laboratory maintenance tasks including but not limited to inventory, stocking supplies, taking bio hazardous waste to be autoclaved and general laboratory cleaning.<br />Other duties as assigned by supervisor.<br />**This position requires overtime including weekend and holiday hours.</p>
<p><strong>All required qualifications must be documented on application materials. </strong></p><p>Required Qualifications:<br />A Bachelor's degree in Microbiology, Bacteriology, Clinical Microbiology, Animal Science or related field or, a combination of 3 to 4 microbiology related college coursework, including one hands-on laboratory class at a minimum and work experience totaling 4 years. <br /><br />Preferred Qualifications:<br />Minimum 1 year of work experience in a microbiology laboratory.<br />Knowledge of the principles and techniques in bacteriology handling laboratory specimens.<br />Experience with the operation and maintenance of laboratory equipment including incubators and biological safety cabinets.<br />Applicants must be professional, responsible, reliable, self-motivated, able to work independently, have excellent communication skills, and are prepared to demonstrate excellence, integrity, communication, and quality throughout all aspects of their job functions.<br />Demonstrates the ability to work cooperatively in a fast paced team environment. <br />Ability to lift/transfer 30lb boxes from floor to waist-high table-top.</p>
