This is a full-time evening shift position, with shifts from Tuesday-Saturday.
The Department of Laboratory Medicine serves as a regional resource for clinical laboratory services required for patient care, research and educational programs in laboratory medicine. UWMC's Laboratory Medicine Department has an outstanding opportunity for a full-time (100%), evening shift, CLINICAL LABORATORY TECHNICIAN 1. Under general supervision the Clinical Laboratory Technician 1 in Molecular Microbiology performs molecular laboratory procedure tasks that support the operation of the molecular section of the clinical laboratory. The individual in this position will extract DNA, operate molecular laboratory equipment, and enter data. Additionally, they will maintain a clean work area and validate results if necessary.

Prepare master mixes for PCR and QC's performance. Aliquots bulk reagents into usable volume
Use laboratory information system software to log in specimens
Work independently to manage average workloads and request assistance in case of heavier workloads
Perform work accurately and precisely: recognizing, correcting, and documenting errors when they occur
Assist with the evaluation of new tests/equipment and research projects
Interact with health care providers in a courteous manner
Communicate clearly with all hospital and laboratory staff to resolve problems
Support Medical Laboratory Scientists, faculty and students in routine procedures demonstrating patience and tolerance
Perform other duties as required

REQUIREMENTS: High school graduation or equivalent AND one year of chemical, clinical, or public health laboratory experience OR Completion of a laboratory assistant course approved by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists OR equivalent education/experience.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: It will be necessary to work in other departmental locations in order to meet patient service requirements, especially at Harborview Medical Center. In addition, less frequent work effort will be required at other UW School of Medicine locations (e.g., South Lake Union) and Seattle-area healthcare institutions.
