Job Posting: The Clinical Lab Scientist performs all standard blood bank testing ABO, Rh, Ab Screen, antibody identification, cord blood work-ups, crossmatch, Direct Coombs, eluates, antigen typing etc. Familiar with Gel technology both manual and automated (ProVue). Logs-in specimens, issues blood components, takes inventory, orders blood components from suppliers, thaws plasma and cryoprecipitate, pools cryoprecipitate. Sends blood components to the patient care areas via the pneumatic tube system and monitors delivery of by pneumatic tube. Makes blood components from whole blood, leukocyte reduce blood, irradiate blood components, split and pool blood components, freeze and wash red blood cells for transfusion. Inspect Trauma Packs, perform OR Runs, Issue Massive Transfusion Coolers to the OR and other locations in the Medical Center. Able to perform multiple tasks with a high degree of accuracy. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Tracks coolers, performs inventory reconciliation and ordering and stocking supplies. Logs-in and issues bone and tissues to the operating rooms as needed. Packs bone and tissues on dry ice and perform inventory reconciliation of bone and tissues.
Qualification Requirements/Preferences: Education Certifications/Licensure Experience Physical Abilities Educational Requirements: Baccalaureate Degree in a biological science, chemistry, medical technology or related science. License/Certification/Registration Requirements: A valid California Clinical Laboratory Scientist license or limited license in Immunohematology required. Prefer MT(ASCP) or BB(ASCP) or equivalent. Experience: Minimum two (2) years experience. Prefer prior blood bank/transfusion service work experience in a transfusion service in a large tertiary care hospital. Have knowledge of cGMP's governing Registered and Licensed Blood Establishments. Must be able to accurately perform multiple tasks in a fast paced environment while maintaining good customer relations. Strong interpersonal skills for interacting with peers, patients, physicians and other customers. Physical Demands: Must be able to lift 25-35 lbs, with frequent walking and standing.
